So its been a little over a month since we were introduced to the new uncapped packages and there has been ALOT good/bad press and 100s of pages of threads.

With great restraint i didnt jump on the uncapped bandwagon, but now this month is nearing a close and im keen to re-look at the situation.

Right now i see Mweb, Afrihost, Axxess, Openweb, Imagine and SAOL currently holding the front page of ISP Discussions.

Is there an ISP that offers all round satisfaction like respectable throttling at certain hours or amounts. Is there certain applications that will suffer if using their service (mmos, voice services, forex) and maybe other things to look out for or keep in mind? Or maybe there is a clear winner?

Maybe this can help others in the same predicament as me, dunno?

For me personally im not looking to download the internet, its just the extra flexibility to download what i need and not worry about hitting a 3gb cap and im also getting into forex trading and i need the extra b/w for that.

If I was in your shoes I would most probably go with Mweb. They seem to be the most "reliable" of the so called new uncapped packages that hit the market. (My view is based on what I have read here on the forums)

The fact that I am with Axxess and have been with them from the start - I would have tried one of their packages, maybe the uncapped one. I basically am happy with their service and product at this point in time.

You haven't stated your line speed... I've been on Afrihost's 384 Uncapped option since late-March and - while it's been a bit of a rough ride for the 4Mbps users and those looking to download huge amounts of data - I have no complaints; particularly as I'm unlikely to do more than 20GB in any given month.

im signing up with Mweb next month....i know i wont get past 30 - 40 gigs a month and from what ive read they wont see this as abuse.

oh - and thier ads on tv are good :p

I won't support Mweb's holding company anywhere more than where I am already forced to.

I am surprised they don't give you a network locked router to go along with it.

Mweb seems to be only ISP that actually planned and implemented this uncapped well. IS rushed into it and as a result, the accounts are terrible.

thats the advantage been the leader, you get to plan where the competitors need to adapt to survive

Definitely seems that way! IS have certainly shot themselves in the foot!

I would personally like to see an ISP that stops trying to undercut the rest by a Rand and instead offers a better product for more money. With a 4meg account you have accounts in the R480 - R500'ish, why not offer an account that is less aggressively shaped or only semi-shaped (unshaped after office hours) for R600 or R650, surely it's not just me who would be interested in that??

I'm with axxess and would have to say, based on the reports here, that Mweb is probably the way to go at the moment.

Interesting to note that the uncapped debate hasn't really raised its head on HelloPeter - don't know what that signifies.

Yes.

With uncapped accounts, my friend who is in IT said, you gotta pump the line to the limit. MWEB's pretty good at that. Really impressed with them although haven't been pumping them - just use internet in evenings/early nighttime and weekends only - never overnight or hardly ever in the daytime. I'm on 4Mb/sec.

I'm with Afrihost and Mweb 4MB uncapped. Afrihost has been a nightmare, Mweb has been a pleasure. Mweb do throttle Rapidshare and torrents quite agresively during the day, but that is to be expected. Mweb's great service has also taken me by surprise!

My only gripe with Mweb is the Rapidshare throttling - completely unusable at all times. Torrents and browsing are fine.

for the last 10 to 15 days net speeds have been up and down, however progressively getting slower and slower. 4meg uncapped and I'm getting below 100k on torrents and websites are crawling!. the last 2 or 3 days its getting so slow that I swear I'm back no Neotel Lite / 384k!

Considering Mweb has thusfar been the preference... its definatley not very fast!

What line speed?

If 384kb/s then I would say SAOL but it costs more. Uncapped & unshaped with no throttleling or shaping or any restrictions for that matter.
