I'm posting this here to vent a bit  (shoot me down if you want).

Judging from what I've read on MyBB and experienced so far, we actually don't have any decent options as far as affordable uncapped broadband goes in SA.

It's all about shaping, throttling, categorising & restricting us, the customers as much as possible. Oh, and don't forget those BS 'fair use policies' which try to make this sound like a good thing. Everything in place to screw the end user.

Does any ISP actually want us to use the bandwidth that we pay for at all??? Seriously. It seems like any application which requires the use of any amount of bandwidth in order to function properly or even reasonably well (e.g. HTTP/FTP downloads, Torrents, Youtube etc.) is shaped to hell and back in order do stop us from using any of the precious bandwidth on our two new under-used undersea cables.

If we need decent speed without waiting for the early hours of the morning we have to pay R19 a gig for it. What on earth is going on here??? I'm done. Anyone got anything positive to say?

Aren't all the Business Account Uncapped and Unshaped?

Nice nice... But I'm thinking of getting through something in the region of 200 to 250 Gigs of data in a month on a 4Mbps account for about 500 bucks without being shaped and throttled, and beaten by ISPs like a red-headed step child. Am I REALLY asking for too much?

@ JustBlack, when saying that there is a lack of "affordable uncapped broadband" I agree with you, especially when compared to the, say, Top 50 countries in the world w.r.t. affordability.

I think that the ISPs offering uncapped are suffering due to circumstances beyond their own control. If some of them drop their prices any lower, they might as well give it away at cost price.

That's the crux of the matter; the costs. Until Telkom drops their IPC pricing the ISPs cannot do a thing.

And then you get to your connectivity costs....

And what about all these fantastic 10Mbps lines that we've been blessed with? But no REASONABLY PRICED uncapped accounts to use them with...

Yeah I'm with you on this... It ain't the ISPs fault... There's a long list of bigger players in this game that are to blame. But the question remains... When will things change?

That list is quite short...
1. Department of Communications
2. ICASA
3. Telkom

Think of your ISP as rehab centre for people hooked on downloading. They need to wean you off your addiction.

ISP only... But I wouldn't complain if it was all inclusive... I suppose we can dream hey...

I dunno, I think prices are still absurd, but as Sting pointed out, many of the ISP's are doing the best they can without going bankrupt. I know people with 4 meg accounts that are easily pulling 200 Gigs, so I dunno really.

Point is miracles won't happen until the players Sting mention get off their asses and start giving the slightest **** about the consumer, which they currently really do not. I, for one, am frankly quite impressed with what the ISP's are accomplishing, given the strictures within which they are forced to work.

Yeah I've gotta agree with you too... I guess the ISP just takes the brunt of the complaints because they're who we have to deal with... I can only hope that they're fighting with the big boys on our behalf... But yeah, they're doing a pretty decent job... I can get thru 200 gigs a month on my account... But the shaping and throttling during the day becomes horrendous... So ya...

LOLZ!

but it should actually be beaten by ISPs like a ginger-headed step child.
people always seem to get confused between gingers and red heads?

Yes, you are asking too much. Go get a business / addict account for 2G's. Then you are being reasonable, considering the current state of affairs and our far away location to the rest of the world.
