Does anyone have any experience using the uncapped DSL solution that is offered by MTN Network Solutions? I have heard positive, but not from anyone that is currently using it.

Thanks in advance for information.

Ok I know this is not what you asked...

But I found I knew about them, but I know nothing about them.

I found that link, it seems awesomely expensive. Even more than ISadsl.
Seems like they also let you rent a router like ISadsl, static ip (sounds like 1)

Would be interesting to hear how they perform...

i think they're targeting business VPN installations, so they probably do offer a solid product, but it'd be at a price.

we use them as an ISP (Diginet) as we have a APN that they manage. they do know what they are doing and you get what you pay for. i would recommend them for any bussiness.

as far as i know, their only adsl offering is to connect from your home to your corporate vpn (which they manage). you could obviously use your companies internet connection when on the vpn, but will be limited to the bandwitdh that the company pays for...

Thanks for the input, I received some more info this morning after this post. I understand that it costs around R1000 more for a 512K than the IS 512K offering (R2700 plus). Also heard that the international ping times were no more than 250ms (low latency) - so it is obviously unshaped and does not run over satellite. Their website claims they have SLAs, and redundant links.

All in all, I think for the price, it is worth spending the extra ca$h when your livelihood / business depends on it. Although I still have a HUGE problem paying more for internet, than I currently pay for a luxury SUV per month in the US. South Africa needs to get on board with where the world is headed with broadband.

They have a very good network design, ask RoDenT. He knows them fairly well me thinks.

I worked there when we converted what was the CITEC ISP into MTN-NS.

The network is fully redundant and they peer with everyone. They also control a lot of content i.e. Johnnic or that was the way it was .......

MTN are a brilliant service provider, but there products are aimed at the higher corporates.

I think there network is better than IS based not on size but design, those boys are bright ! anyway I think for the average business the normal IS package will be ok, we have tested it for a long time and it seems really good.

Based on what the pricing could be in this current market I think that they are making a good effort. We have just released some of the products under uncapped.co.za. Give me a shout if you intrested.

Another bunch of guys that have a great network is T-Systems.

Besides they have their own 90 MB international connection, I can set up a meeting if any ISP is seriously interested.

The GAN they have is amazing, it back-ends into Deutche Telekom, GB connections into every major network.

It is sitting idle for the most part ......... I mentioned this to WA .... not sure if I sent them the details.

Network stock in trade expires on a per millisecond basis.

Any takers ? PM me.

@WickedWeasel

Is that uncapped *and* unshaped?
Shaping (or not shaping) is not mentioned on the website.

D

The MTN offerings are definately targeted at business, but then again, you get pretty much high quality raw SAT3 bandwidth for your money.

I must agree, however for a more convential service why dont you try one of IS's products ?

WickedWeasel: The latency that comes with IS, is too high for the type of work I do. I had one of my buddies test it for me a few weeks back, while VOIP is not a problem - sounded better than SAIX - I use VPN back to the US and various other things that require low latency.

Thanks!

Adapt, improvise, overcome - and prepare yourself for a certain amount of disappointment. :(
