What's the difference between

Openweb - Uncapped Express - 4Mbps After Hours - R1299

and

Axxess - Uncapped Express + Fibre - 384k - R999

other than the 256k vs 384k/192k during weekdays, given that both give full access to a 4MB line after hours and weekends?

Interesting... can't wait to see the answer! :)

Hopefully people won't derail your thread like they did mine...

Well you should probably compare it to the middle option rather.... since the speeds are then the same.

Factor______OpenWeb________Axxess
Cost________R1299.00________R1499.00
B/h Speed___256kbps_________512kbps (up to 10GB, then 256kbps)
A/h Speed___4mbps__________4mbps

So, the Axxess product has a rolling threshhold and the OpenWeb one does not. Since most guys use their threshold up on the first night and are then throttled to 256kbps the next day, OpenWeb seems to be the cheaper product. If you don't mind being throttled to 192 kbps during business hours, then the Axxess R999 option is better.

Axxess has a rolling threshold, but Openweb has a permanent threshold. But let's assume one would always be throttled to 192k.

Is the 256k vs 192k worth an extra R300 per month?

not in every case, but in my case yes. If you are a single user, then it should not be a problem. But we are a household of 5. The 256k during the day is adequate, but 192k would not be enough. I also keep one Gig of WebAfrica available as well, when I need a speed boost.

Okay, thanks. So otherwise no major difference?

If I saved downloads for overnight and weekends, I could use the R300 saving on a different account (ie prepaid) so I don't lose the benefit of the 4mb line during weekdays.

Yes. You could get a nice 3 gig or 5 gig account with the difference. In fact, I think I might do that as well! :)

Are these accounts the same as the web africa IS ADSL express uncapped? I'm getting crappy international speeds with Steam, BitTorrent, etc. on my WA account, but it's pointless switching to another ISP if it's still an IS account.

Could be wrong, but I think that account runs over satellite rather than fibre.

Ok, the response I got from WA was that they don't advertise the 4mbps after hours because IS doesn't guarantee it. So while the Axxess/Openweb accounts sound better, I'll probably be sitting with the same issues. I've asked if WA is going to offer the express+ fibre option, maybe that'll help with Steam.
