Can we all agree to at least attempt to use the correct abbreviations in all these uncapped threads. It is getting very confusing with people quoting kb,Kb,Mb,mb,kB all over the place.

So stick to:

kb = kiloBITS (small b) which refers to the ADSL line speed (eg 384 kb/sec, 512 kb/sec).
Mb = megaBITS (small b) which refers to the ADSL line speed (2Mb/sec, 4Mb/sec).
(Mb is what speedtest.net reports)

kB = kiloBYTES (big B) which refers to the data transfer rate reported by your download program/client/utorrent/nzb client. (This is the one we are all interested in)

So when someone says they are downloading at 25kb/sec on a 384 line, they are talking RUBBISH. That is slower than dialup (56kb/sec). They meant to say 25kB/sec ,which is okay for a 384kb/sec line (which is limited to a max of about 40kB/sec).

I know I sound like your dad, but trying to comprehend all these speed and data rate posts is a real chore. I'm sure you are all tired of people asking "Is that on a 384 line?" or "Is that kilobytes per second?".

No, i have a woman in a bonnet and frock do that for me.

Now Im more confused than ever. :D

Why not differentiate the two like this:

25kb/s (kilobytes per second)
25kbps (kilobits per second)

That's how speedtest.net differentiates between the two.

Why don't we act like we care and let this thread get swept under the carpet :p.
There have been many a times where people complain and no one reallys pays much attention to it.
