Uncapped Fibre Data

Hi all,
I'm currently on an Openserve Fibre 1000GB Capped with Openserve Fibre 200/100Mbps Line from Webafrica.

The data usage at my place is starting to exceed that 1TB Anytime as well as the 1TB Free Download Plus. I'm using in excess of 1.8TB pm.

I see Webafrica offers an Openserve Uncapped Premium 200/100 package with no FUP for only R529 pm. With my current package being R929 pm, the uncapped is really attractive.

I do find it difficult to believe that I will get the same performance (no shaping) on the uncapped account as I would on the capped package so I would like to test it before. I do not mind paying the extra R529 pm to test.

I called Webafrica to find out if I could keep my existing capped account and add the uncapped package to test. I was told that it's not possible to have two Fibre data packages with only a single line on an account.

I've gone and looked at Afrihost, Vox and Comtel and none seem able to just sell me a Fibre data account.

Does anyone know of an ISP who will sell me an Uncapped "Premium" Fibre data account? I'd like to try the Openserve Uncapped Premium if possible, but am open to other suggestions.

Unless you were offered a special package, the OS premium uncapped 200meg is 1539 pm..
 
I think you are seeing R 1,539 because that includes the line. The data portion appears to be only R529.

You can use any ADSL account on Openserve fibre. Some are speed capped to 40Mbps to prevent people from using it on fast fibre lines but there are ISP that do not speed cap their capped accounts for example

Cybersmart
Vox Fatpipe
Webafrica ADSL capped accounts
Axxess
Afrihost


Ohh and yes you CAN use a Webafrica capped ADSL account on Openserve fibre.


Since Openserve fibre only works on LAN 1 on the ONT you can add a cheap 1Gbps switch between the ONT and the router. This will mean that the router you can add your main pppoe details and then on your pc you dial the pppoe accounts as required. Some nice routers allow PPPoE passthrough, bridge or hald bridge mode that allows each device to dial it's own pppoe connection if you want to do that.


All that said Webafrica and Afrihost both uses Liquid telecoms as transit so performance should be similar and I don't think if you go for the Premium uncapped with Webafrica that you will have an issue. On Afrihost I managed to use like 8TB on my 200/100 Openserve line an they aren't complaining and speeds are still perfect.
