I am on the 1.5 Gig package and went over my cap on the 20th, so was limited to Iburst's "therotical" 64kbs.

For the entire night last night (Sunday) I was suddenly uncapped again and back on 1Mbs.

Seems like Iburst screwed up in a good way this time. At least I made the most of a good situation while I could... :D

Was it just me?

Yea but this was with no intervention on my part. Just connected as normal and there it was.

It happens quite often, whenever you reconnect it will be uncapped for a minute or two, and sometimes longer. :)

Basjohn, of the dc++ hub, says that if you somehow have NO internet communication in that first minute or so, you have a higher chance of staying uncapped. Usually tho the dc++ guys just disconnect and reconnect untill they achive an uncapped ip address.

I find it kinda funny how Ekhaatvensters and Riverdusty kinda just gave away the big secret we've all been kinda whispery about (I mean we'd all tell each other, but generally through pms) for so long. Oh well....I suppose if they could fix it they would have already so no real need to worry.

And aye, more than one initial connection seems to make your chances of dropping back to 64 much higher. I don't mean NONE though, just no more than ONE. Butttt.....that's just my theory from buggering around so many times and has no actual proof to back it up.

They've known about this so-called "big secret" for a long time but lack the technical knowhow to stop it.:D

Their answer to it is to monitor a "suspect" account and cap it manually which is not so easy to do 24/7.

There are other ways to get around it even if they do somehow manage to "fix" the problem.:p

shhhhhhhhhhh!
first rule of 'teh secret' is u do not talk about 'teh secret' !!

I wasn't even sure if that was the big secret, but it's not very hard to figure out. :/

It definitely does drop down to 64kb quite quickly after you start browsing or adding downloads onto any initial thread you started with.

And this is done how exactly?

as mentioned above - but as others have pointed out not very reliable but has certainly helped when i needed that big download.

and that hole has been in the system since the capping was introduced - i dont think they are arsed in fixing it cuz not many people abuse it.

hell i hardly cap myself these days considering i have a 4Mb line at work :)

Well to be honest.. even when uncapped after I reach my cap, I generally don't abuse it by leaving stuff downloading 24/7. If there is something I want to download I download it, but most of the time my connection just sits idle.

ive been on "uncapped" for about a year and a half.Only useful for http and ftp downloads , still i aint complaining
