Hi Guys

Hoping you peeps can give me some pointers w.r.t. which package i should choose.

I am looking for a package which can give me the most of it i.t.o. Speed, Reliablibity, Price, Support and just general uptime.

My usage will be in the region of between 25GB - 60GB. Will be used for torrents, streaming, email, browsing, maybe skype and online gaming. Will mostly use the account say from 6pm weekdays and 24/7 weekends.

Mweb - R349 (shaped)
How bad is their shaping and what download speeds can i expect from. them. Do i have to give my adsl line to them or can it be with Telkom since most say its better to leave it at Telkom.

Openweb Lite/Gold - Standard (R219) Lite (R348) Gold (R318) Which is better of the Lite or the Gold package or even their normal uncapped package. Can i keep my line with Telkom?

Wazzup - R305 (unshaped) Personaly i think its the best of the lot, but most ppl say they are a small isp that resells IS. I have not heard any complaints from them besides that you must move your adsl line to them.

Webafrica - (R599 for 25GB capped unshaped data - 4MB line) I think the cap will be too little for me as i think with a 4mb line i run it down in the first week. Aslo price wise its a bit steep for me though.Would not mind if it was 4mb line with 50GB for R399 then i would have signed up immediately.

So thats my choices guys. I guess all you fanbois will praise your isp. As i said the most important is decent speed and decent streaming.

Hope you guys can make up my mind. I choices in order would be Wazzup, Openweb, Mweb and then Webafrica.

Only got 384 well that what there web site is showing , with mweb no issues 4 mb acc with 10 mb line

I assume this is 384kb/s line. Anything IS is a no-go if you're going over 40GB. My advise is to go with MWEB, you can pull between 60 and 70 GB with them and still be able to game.

ADSL account

If rumors are to be believed, that would be anything over 21GB.

I am on an "uncapped" Afrihost 384kB/s account, and I have serious throttling after only downloading not even 6 GB !!!! That is after my account has been moved by them to IS. Their response on my query is that I am not throttled/shaped. I only get 15kB/s on HTTP downloads and 9 kB/s on torrents. What the hell is going on at IS ?????? I will surely move as soon as possible. And I thought Telkom was bad ??? How wrong can one person be !!!!!

:

As far as i can tell those accounts have been discontinued, you only get 10gigs of bandwidth now.

I hope im wrong.

I think you're right in that they're discountinued, however 10GB Complete is 499 as far as I can remember.

Wazzup is ok for speeds and cap, but support is not looking to good at all.

Avoid IS based accounts if you want do anything (download, surf, webcam).
No matter what I download it get 6KB/s.
Posted elsewhere tonight already but once in top20% you on dailup.

For your usage definitely openweb GOLD on IS or Neology backbone.

So what backbone - SAIX/IS are the following.

MWEB
OPENWEB
WAZZUP
WEBAFRICA

I hear alot of people say that for international SAIX is the way to go.
That would pretty much make me choose the correct isp.

+1 IS Sucks!!!!

Get a MWEB Account. With all the shaping - I only use Hotfile and Rapidshare no bypassing ISP's. Speeds are crap during the day for downloading but everything else is fine, decent after 11PM for downloading and full speed over weekends.

You have used 157.46 GB so far this month. - Good enough? :D

MWEB and Web Africa use their own networks. OpenWeb uses a variety - MWEB, IS, Vodacom, etc.

I don't think there's any SAIX ISP that offers uncapped right now.

Everyone seems to be bashing IS lol..

Just remember that all these guys complaining about being in the top20% and are now be throttled are on the uncapped lite package(R196)!

Not sure if this applies to the standard IS uncapped(R219)..

Definitely doesn't apply to IS gold from openWeb(R318)

So far my usage is 49Gb and that's with p2p which is shaped during office hours(+-25k) and let loose after hours. http is good and so is the latency.

Im happy with my openWeb IS based account.

WAZZUP uses SAIX, not IS.

Support is bad.
I'm going to review them at the end of the month, but so far, migrating your line to them is not recommended.

What is the real issue of not handing your line over to the isp. if there is problems then surely the isp have to interact with telkom to sort out the problem. you paying them so they must provide the service. i simply cannot understand what the big deal is.
