There have been a number of posts from users that their speeds have increased since Telkom has been using their new "tool". Mine looks about the same I think (not done a speed test in a long time) and I'm wondering if it's cos I have an uncapped Telkom account?

No idea what these results mean..

It's due to the account you have, which has a limit of say 4mbps due to being uncapped while your line could have one of 6mbps... so if you get a capped product which usually does not have the limit (don't think telkom does these types of accounts most other ISPs have up to 40mpbs accounts...) you would reach your, say, 6mbps.

However according to your router your line speed hasn't been increased (2nd photo)...

thanx :)

No its because your line has not been upgraded. It's still syncing at the same 4Mbs.

Easiest way is to get a free 1GB Afrihost or similar account and test your line with that.

If you have say a 4Mbps uncapped account and a 4Mbps line which now synchs at 5Mpbs due to Telkom changes what will your router show? The 4Mbps that your account is connected at or the 5Mbps that your line is allowed? Out of interest...

I'll test it out on the weekend and post the results. I have a free Afrihost account which I've never used.

When you have an uncapped account, if memory serves, you have to select your package based on your line speed and that's where it's capped by your ISP.

So if you have a 20mbps line and a 4mbps uncapped account, you're only going to get a maximum of 4mbps downstream speed

:)

A number of users have reported that their sync speeds are higher and a few others have said theirs have decreased.

You might notice if you have 4mb line it should sync around 5mb now.
