Hey guys,

We're currently looking into "uncapping" our home internet connection.

Dont really want to go through the shlepp op waiting for a landline to be installed so we are looking at some uncapped wireless options, but, there are so many.

Have you got any recommendations?

Not really looking for anything lightning fast though...just 2-4mb\s that is reliable.

If available in your area, get Neotel's wireless uncapped. It is a 24month contract and you are still going to wait for install.

Go DSL if you can.

best uncapped wireless deal at the moment if you lucky enough to fall into the coverage areas:
http://www.telkommobile.co.za/smartbroadband-uncapped-wireless/

I just signed up for this now. Telkom busy doing the external antenna installation as we speak.

alternatively www.bitco.co.za

We recently had our Telkom lines to our complex stolen. I was 90% of the way to getting a wireless link set up and Telkom called and said they've replaced all the cables. After all the research I can tell you that Telkom (ADSL or if you're lucky enough to be in the LTE-A coverage area) is probably your best option for uncapped.

Here's why...

Installation Fee:
Most have rather high installation fees (+-R3k) or you have to sign a long term contract where they work the installation fee in over 12 or 24 months.

Site Survey:
Most Wireless ISPs also have a long lead time for installation eg. Bitco is 6 weeks.
Most of them have to install equipment (3m pole with a satellite dish on the end) which is line-of-sight so you'll also need body corp approval if you're like me and live in a complex.

Issues:
Like Telkom, the wireless ISPs come with their own unique set of issues. E.g. Bitco has a FUP where if you use your line at full speed for an hour, you get shaped. So probably not so good for Netflix or Supersport streaming. They've also got an issue where they're shaping Battlefield 4 traffic (by accident) as a result of their rather strict shaping policies.

Monthly Fees:
Are usually quite a bit higher than the Telkom ADSL equivalent.

Conclusion... If you're getting seriously bad performance on ADSL or you don't have access to ADSL at all. Then wireless is the solution for you and you should look at Neotel as they're the cheapest and seem to have the least restrictive FUP for uncapped. Otherwise stick with ADSL for uncapped.
