Uncapped?

Need some honest advice, seems that uncapped is a total or maybe not total but it is a failure IMO with people moaning about speed, latency etc.

The Axxess Express+ would seem, to me, that this would be the best residential route to go on 4mb or even on 1mb.

Would you guys agree? I want to download quite a bit, maybe 100-200 gigs a month watching tv series etc.

Would you recommend the Axxess route over say Mweb, not even considering Afrihost which seem to have vanished into thin air.

In downloading over weekends and evenings - and not through the whole night, I've done 235GB on MWEB in April. I suggest you go with Axcess Express +++ Platinum Premium SuperSize. The rest of us will go one with our meager DLs on R899 pm line rental included.

Guys I mailed Axxess and got this response. Does this sound right? I have a mate on the R1499-00 package ( 512kbps [256Kbps upload]R1499.00) and he gets 4mb speeds after hours and on weekends and does about 600 gis per month but this is what they told me:

Hi,

The type of system you are looking for is our Express Plus account, on which the rate limiting falls away after hours and over weekends. On our Uncapped Shaped accounts, they are permanently shaped and they will always run at the speed of the account you sign up for.

So how is it that people on the 512kbps account get full 4mb speeds after hours?

Oh really?!? Funny everywhere in the world they still have fair usage policies on uncapped accounts. It might be much higher than what it is currently in SA but then again BW is much much cheaper in those countries. We are getting there though I think. I still maintain 150GB - 200GB for SA is a good start. Less is most definitely not good. More is first prize of course. That will happen eventually!! Doing 1TB per month is just :confused::confused::confused:

They have fair usage policies because everything flat rated is limited in the fine print. In practice however, most 1st world country users do not get capped or rather it's not a problem one hears about. Then again there is only so much a person can download to watch or to hoard even if your whole family watches something else.

It is possible to do >1TB per month on MWEB but only a obnoxious fanatic would do that.

Just be careful with that, they catch you with the fine print... yes you do get:

You will still have the FULL line speed(max of 4M) after 8pm on weekdays and the weekend. This means that if you have a 4Mb/s line, you will get 4Mb/s speed, even if you only have a 384Kbps account!

But there is a rolling threshold limit, and if you cross that your line gets throttled to ISDN speeds....

After hour usage still counts to your daytime 10 Day Rolling Threshold. So if you used more than your 10 Day Rolling Threshold then your speed will be throttled during the day time until your usage falls within the 10 Day Rolling Threshold. Refer to the table below for threshold and speed limits. This treshold will not reset on the 1st of the month.

Line Speed 10 Day Rolling Threshold Throttled to Pricing
384Kbps [192Kbps upload] 5GB 192kbps R999.00
512kbps [256Kbps upload] 10GB 256kbps R1499.00
1024kbps [384Kbps upload] 20GB 512kbps R2699.00

That's a bit rough in my opinion. Mweb is just far superior to this offering from Axxess. My advice is just get Downstorm or AreoVPN or similar then download full speed day and night with Mweb for a lot less.

What if you believe in Redundancy? :erm:

Of what? :wtf:

As an access circuit it's #1 a business account and #2 if you do that much traffic on your redundant link fire your primary ISP!!!

On a sidenote, these okes that do 500GB+ each month. Have you guys heard of WUG's? It's free and will most certainly give you what you need at great speeds most of the time.

Marine as far as i know axxess if full speed at night, throttled to 384 or 512 during office hours.
