Hi all,

Been considering buying one of those under counter/under sink water filters that connects to the water mains and then has it's own tap with "filtered water".

Does anyone have any experience with such filters? Do they work and if so which brands should one go for?

TIA

Yes we got one installed when we moved into our home. Don't know the brand off the top of my head. But some tips :

- Don't get one with computerised flow control - It adds unnecessary complexity and more points of (expensive) failure - (assuming you have enough water pressure for an "analogue" control valve)

- Has to be serviced every 6 to 12 months. We drink LOTS of water so I do it about every 8 months.

- I test every now and then and usually get a TDS of 15-25 (E.g. BonAqua you get in the shops has a claimed TDS of 44)

- Our kettle looks like the day it was bought since we filled it up with this water.

- Think carefully about the tap position. It's often convenient to be able to place a large bottle / container underneath it in the sink and have it fill while you do something else.

/my 2c. (if you're in Pretoria I can recommend the person who installed ours)

^Thanks for this.

Any idea what I'm gonna pay for a system like yours? (I don't mind doing the installation myself).

I'm also sure the person who did yours would come to Jozi... so feel free to pass on details :D

I purchased from them this year. Happy so far with the product and water even looks cleaner and smells better.

There is a guy by the name the water boy in Natal.
He does RO water etc.

He knows his stuff and sells equipment to Marine Reek Keepers and I have bough from him in the past.
