hey guys/girls

My friend bought himself a pc a while ago... he let the people put it together for him... now almost 1 - 2 years later he realises that his CPU is running at 2.1GHZ accept its supposed to be 2.8GHZ... i have heard of pc's being underclocked in a way??? he doesn't have heating problems so its not being throttled because of heat etc...

please can someone help to get it to the original speed!!

Thanx

//EDIT sorry a pentium 4

You should be able to slap that Intel to a fsb of around 140-150 even 160 (if lucky) going up in smallish increments of course. Intels are gr8 for overclocking. :)

ok but im not much on overclocker so i dont know how to change those things (i guess in the BIOS duh...) but still i dont want to mess up anything!!

That is to get it standard... he doesnt want to overclock

Set it to 133 and ur fine. :) Most bios's set fsb speeds lowwer than the cpu can handle just as a precaution. ie : several asus m/b's.

looks like a kinda old mobo that you can change the speed with jumpers!?!?? on the mobo i'll check it out tomorrow when he arrives cos he's not very computer litterate!! (lol)

They are great for overheating and blowing up too! Despite it's emergency underclocking.

i would check your motherboard to see if can take a 2.8?

you may need a bios update

also i doubt your cpu is underclock

so either they gave the wrong cpu or the board cant handle it

1 half year later you notice and now you want to fix it lol

First... not my pc...
Second... My friend is stupid when it comes to PC's
Three... The mobo can take 2.8
Four... The cpu is going 2.1 when its supposed to go 2.8 (dont know if it is underclock!!!)

Last thing got it going last night at 2.8

Probably a little bit more advanced, my cpu was running at 2394 mHz so Steam says the system in under spec. I used a bit of software called glockgen from www.cpuid.com - took longer to find the right configuration than to actually set it up. Now runs ar 2401 mHz
