have a customer that got damage on his hp 530 laptop...usb ports have been bent.

i organized this for him:
http://www.mgate.ca/index.php?productID=782

however - the e220usb that he has doesn't start in this - the green light is VERY faint (signs of being underpowered)....

this card doesn't come with an AC adapter as one of the selling points is having enough power other than other pcmcia cards..

any ideas?

back of the card : usb2.0 cardbus 32bit pc card dc 5V 1000mA CBU1080N

Google it. Found quite a few related articles.

If you are using the USB modem via a PCMCIA usb 2.0 adaptor, then you will have a power issue. The PCMCIA cannot supply enough current to properly initialise a USB mode (500mA). You will need to get your self a powered hub or get yourself a HSDPA mobile

The E220 comes with a forked USB cable ie. you can use 2 usb ports on the pc. Does it still not work using this cable?

I see a lot of devices being sold by resellers that don't follow the USB spec, the specs CLEARLY state a maximum current of 500mA. Also the device is supposed to draw a maximum of 100mA current when first plugged in and then request more current.

If the device works on 1 computer it has to work on all of the regardless of the USB specification they conform to, else the device is out of specification and isn't even supposed to have the USB logo on it.

Dual USB cables *might* work depending on how strict the USB controller is in terms of following the USB spec, if it follows it to the tee then it's not supposed to work, which might be the case with this card that you got the client.

thanks for the input peeps...but the luck is not on my side

i've located the 2x usb to 1plug into e220 - and it still doesn't have enough juice to power up the unit.

just don't know whats cooking - the 3port sunix works 100% in reading my external 2.5" drive also with 2 usb power connectors , printers, flash drives work 100%.

the e220 in its own works 100% on another laptop and desktop pc.

so i'm puzzled
