This is a sister thread to the Overrated cars thread. What cars do you think are under appreciated in South Africa? This could be any car that you think deserves more attention compared to the competition. Please share your thoughts.

Most sedans I reckon.
You can't buy one new now but compare an Arteon to a Tiguan for example.
2nd hand you can pick em up for similar prices but in the Arteon you get more power, better performance and handling, better fuel consumption, more interior space, more luggage space.

You also get your cars that might well be highly rated but still don't sell due to brand perception - Peugeot for example.
Although I will admit I'm seeing more of them on the roads and that's a good thing - I've got a soft spot for Peugeot, dad used to own one baaack in the day.
Haval is rapidly overcoming this perception as well.

View attachment 1223170I always felt as if these were underrated.

The 2.3 turbo mps models where having mayor issues that i think damaged possible sales for all the cars in the range. Heavy fuel consumption, excessive heat build up. over ref vvt failure. timing chains breaking.
Very few mps models engine would last beyond 200 000 km and if driven hard the would fail still under warrantee kms

So you wouldn’t classify it as underrated, more unreliable?

Actually most large French cars, especially the sedans and coupés.

Honda S2000 - good examples will only go up in value.

BMW E46 M3 CSL - same as above. Highly under rated when launched. The days when you could one of these for a good price is long gone.

Fiat Uno (not the Turbo version).

Tons of space inside, super easy engine to work on and fuel economy to brag about.
Surprisingly good handling and super fun to drive on the highway!
Miss my Uno very very much.

I'm going to go ahead and say my car is underrated as it was slated for being 4 door. Dual clutch. In retrospect and after the trophy version which addressed issues. It's a car I don't want to get rid of.
