Undersea cable bandwidth usage

To make a point:

Telkom are the biggest sole shareholders in the SAT3/SAFE telecoms system, thus our of all the companies/countries on it (I think it was 90) Telkom/SA are in a position be be the cheapest (the more you buy the cheaper it gets ber GBit etc.) However, strangely enough Telkom/SA is the most expensive, by a LONG shot... figure that one out.

As I said - those could be dealt with individually.

I really am surprised to hear SA is notorious for piracy - unless you're meaning pirated cd/dvd's. We simply dont have the line speeds to compare with the big boys when it comes to downloading pirated goods. Overseas you'll have mates downloading identical content where here there is a propensity to share.

The percentage of users that use 200GB a month would not have an affect on your experience.

Strange how people seem to think that users doing 200G will massively degrade things, capacity is not nearly as limited or as expensive as Telkom would have everyone believe. I find it bizarre that people would even think of pointing fingers at high end users when everyone knows that Telkom intentionally cripple ADSL with stupidly low caps, speeds and shaping, which as anyone who has tried to play on overseas servers will tell you affects your experience a LOT.

I would be quite interested to know exactly how these people think the experience will be degraded? I get the feeling they are the Counterstrike type addicts who get obsessed about having a ping time 5ms better than the next guy. Not an unreasonable desire, but shaping does more to harm ping times than any obsessive downloader could.
