Understand Meter Reading?

Ok so I just moved, and have organised to read the meter myself every month. Took a reading last month when I put the account in my name.

It was 0201413,1

Current reading 0212778.1

Difference 11365.0

But I have no idea how many kiloliters that translates to. I've seen things that say you only read the numbers in black and ignore the numbers in red but my meter is so old it is only in black digits on a white back ground.

Am I in for a horrible horrible bill or am I freaking out for nothing?

That should be in liters, so you're looking at 11.365kl. To confirm, take a reading, fill a 2 liter jug and take another reading. If it is in liters, then the first digit before the decimal (the 3 in your first reading) should change.

If only the digits after the decimal changes, then panic. :)

I'm assuming it's 11.3 kl because its a small house, just two of us, both paranoid about water. The sewerage conservancy tank fills up about once a month and that is about 10 000 liters. The only other water used is shower water, washing machine, and a bit of watering of pot plants.

I can't imagine using 113 kl. If I am there is a MASSIVE leak somewhere but all the old water pipes were completely removed and entirely new pipes from the meter throughout the house were fitted.

Try getting access to the blueprints, maybe your house was connected to another house but when they build the walls they never separated the pipes. In Bloem this happens all the time
