Underwater Camera

Finally thinking of replacing my old Olympus. It served me well as a basic camera beneath the waves.

Anyway, I fancy myself as an amateur photographer and I'm now looking at a more advanced setup. IE: the camera, housing and a strobe (with tray and arm). My budget isn't hectic, so after looking at the Canon G11 (and G12) those are out.

My 2nd choice is the Canon S95, bit still above my price range. Can anyone recommend a good camera for underwater photography? It would be nice if it had HD video for normal land shot, but that's not important. It must have great quality photos and excel in low light (like reviews of the S95 commented on).

Thanks in advance,
Sysem

I'm probably talking about something different you, but most times I've seen underwater housings for cameras, they're well over the price of the camera itself. Might work out better to just get a water-proof camera like your previous model (but a newer version, obviously.)

Sorry, I'm aiming specifically at cameras with housings :p didn't make that clear. I'm not looking at the waterproof cameras as most of the time the don't go to the depth I dive, or in the case of Sea and Sea, are expensive. Just looking at a mid range camera and housing setup that I can add a strobe to eventually.

+1

Thought it was an error on the price when I first saw it!

I don't think that "cheap" and "underwater camera housing" exist in the same universe.

Wasn't looking for "cheap". Looking for alternatives that are slightly less expensive than the ones I mentioned. I don't mind spending a lot of the housing, but then the camera needs to be a little cheaper.

Also, I'm not looking for an SLR camera, that's far from important. Just a point and click camera with slightly more functionality than the R700 jobs you easily able to get
