I'm getting SMS from MTN saying something like:

Alert! Yesterday you used R6 on 1MB at out of bundle rates.

Firstly, I'm using a Blackberry and any data should be covered by the R59 Blackberry Bundle.

Secondly, I am not using data at all, in bundle or out of bundle. Occasionally I get messages suggesting I download some juvenile game or listen to some crappy music, is that what's causing my airtime to bleed out?

If it is, how can I put a stop to it?

Quite honestly I think this kind of surreptitious skimming off of the accounts of some of the most vulnerable in society is beyond nefarious, but it's largely what I have come to expect from MTN.

From what I remember, there's limits on BIS. For a media file that you download, it can't be bigger than 2.9mb.
If it's not a media file then it's a smaller limit but I'm not too sure.

Aren't out of bundle rates R2/MB, not R6?
App downloads don't count to your/as BIS, they are charged separately.

Had the same issue...but using Afrihost APN...would be connected to Afrihost APN, and get message from MTN, you are using out of bundle data. Well MTN, were as helpful, as a blind leading the Walking Dead folks...anyways, I digress...

Called Afrihost, and got a logical explanation... When you have an active data connection, in this case to your BlackBerry APN ..and for some reason the connection drops...low/lost signal/congested BTs/tower..and your phone has to look for alternative BTS, it will connect via the default APN, in this case internet/mymtn...before it checks if you have alternative APN provisioned/which one you have selected... solution: delete the internet/mymth apn info.
