Unfamiliar File Extension

I have received an email from a friend who has recently moved to the USA.
They were trying to send me photos of their apartment and attached a stack of them, however, they all have the ext. of efn which I have been unable to open with my software.
I even sent one of them to a friend who uses Photoshop 9. He aslo admitted defeat.
Has anyone of this forum any idea of wht these files are?

Have you tried renaming them to jpg?

I don't suppose you have access to a Linux box? Mos Linux distros come with the 'file' utility which can identify files by their headers.
