A promised mass defection of Congress of the People members back to the ANC in protest against the nomination of Mvume Dandala as its presidential candidate turned out to be a parade of a few disgruntled ruling party supporters who have just reactivated their membership.

Do none of these nutjobs understand how democracy works?

I thought it fantastic that COPE has nominated a candidate for president who isn't the party president, much unlike the ANC. This is a giant leap forward for democracy, yet these buffoons fail to understand the significance of a party not dominated by the top "bigwigs" but rather as a democratic process for all members of the party.

On a side note, how do you think the ANC is going to treat those they view as "traitors" should they return?

ANC will gladly take them back, but after the elections, ANC will kick them in the nuts!

I thought these people joined COPE because they didn't like what the ANC was doing. I guess Shikota promised them something, unfortunately it does sot seem like it's going their way!

I think they are nervous about having to have morals.

It seems to be a typical struggle hero fanboy problem.

I think COPE has done a good thing and losing the few that don't value principles is better in the long run. Not sure why they haven't dumped Boesak though? I'm not saying he can't be a party member, but why does he think that a senior position should go his way?

Democracy means the people vote for ther preferred candidate...I wonder if if such a process has been followed in COPE.
I've heard that this Dandala was not even a member of COPE until 3 weeks ago,
Apparently he was roped in to help resolve the stand-off between Shilowa and Lekota. Rumour has it that Shilowa got more nominations than Lekota.

But then again it's all rumour(from within COPE) at this point as the media is not about to report any negativity about their darling party.

Er... wtf? Newspapers are in it to sell it, not to protect some political parties from harsh criticism - if it hasn't been reported in the media its because they a) don't know about it or b) are unable to publish anything due to lack of evidence. Please take your conspiracy theories somewhere else :/

African politics. Pfft.

And you happen to be??? American/Asian/European/Australian???

It it funny how there are forums all over the place about what defines one as an African, yet when it comes to things you don't agree with all of a sudden it's an 'Africa' mentality you're not associated with.

Or maybe it is a non-event. The ANC were making a big noise about 300+ people who left COPE and went to the ANC. The COPE guy said about 6 people left COPE and went to the ANC because they were kicked out for disciplinary reasons.

Considering that it is a known fact that ANC spokespeople lie, I am a bit more inclined to believe the COPE guy. But then we are delaing with politicians.

No I'm South African but I don't take part in politics. And I have never once said I'm proudly South African and I have never once told anyone how proud I am of this country because I'm not.

For real? I mean I'm no cheerleader for SA but I also don't slag off my country- governments (and their ideologies) come and go but SA and its people will always remain.

Yes, for real. Promise. As a rule I don't go slagging off this country when talking to people that has never been here or are visiting here for this first time, but I'm also no ambassador for ZA, because I'm not proud of it. ZA and it's people will remain, just like any other country and it's people.
