Has anyone fitted a unichip or similar to their car, any noticable improvement?

A Golf 2.0 tdi, probably won't fit one unless I can find some honest reviews, just curious.

I had one in my car that was sold, gave me 8kw gain, was a normally aspirated 1.8i vw jetta. Performance improvement was felt. On the tdi you should get better gains as you should be able to change the boost with the unichip as well

Do you think it will affect reliability? And fuel consumption?

It should decrease fuel consumption while increasing performance.

I have the UniQ in my Honda... can't remember the gains.

The gains depend on a lot of factors: N/A or turbo charged, age of vehicle, experience of the tuner, type of fuel/additives, etc.

The MOST important thing to know/do: use a reputable UniChip tuner.

UniChip is just a 'Tool'; the gains and reliability mostly lies in the hands of your tuner.

I cannot stress this enough!

Revo Technik. Especially for vehicles within the VW group.

I've been a member on the VW Club for a while, and by the sounds of it, a unichip is not the best route, as it is a piggyback system.
Rather go for a remapping. There are many reputable tuners, each with there pro's and cons.

With the TDI you won't regret it, they adapt really well to the maps. Fuel consumption will be lower, and car more reliable (Also depending on how aggressive the map is).

I had someone ask me about this recently, and this was my mail to him : (Sorry for leaving REVO out, they just a bit pricey)

there are tons… the guy who they reckon is the best is Trevor from Dimsport, really know’s what he’s doing. His number is: 0833095033. (Plus he Dyno’s before and after)

With Trevor you lookin at about R3500, but it’s the best (apparently.), plus you looking at HUGE increases in power (>25wkw)… which is AWESOME.

Also, there is a place called EtunersSA, they running a June Special (R2400), and apparently they not bad. Call Shaheen: 0825520430

Also, Celtic Tuning, which is coming up FAST, and they do excellent custom maps, you can call Martin: 0838974087 (Slightly pricey, R4500, but apparently worth it.)

Personally, I would go for Trevor…

If you need to know anything else, give me a shout, or join on the vwclub forums (http://www.vwclub.co.za ), as there are a lot of guys with TDI’s there, and they VERY knowledgeable.

Hope that helps

unichip on b16a vtec

i had it fitted to my vtec.
fitted CAI, other cams, zorst and branch.

Came onto the dyno un-tuned with 128kw and 166nm
fitted chip and tuned to 138kw and 176nm

better fuel consumption and definitely a faster car.
Tuned at KSD

Have Koosi himself tune

Most plugin chips just overfuel the car. On a TDi that's just a recipe for disaster.

Rather get your car remapped by a reputable tuner like Sportech, FRC, etc.

+10000000 to that...

On the VW club they have quite a few tuners listed... even guests can view it, so give it a shot..

plug and play sucks. each car is different even from the factory. Custom tune is the best way to go.
