Im using vista and xp on the same router(800vgt), the xp works fine but with vista i keep getting "Unidentified Network "local access" only" message in the network and sharing center when i try to connect.
This makes it hard for me to browse th net because it keeps disconnecting:confused: please help.
PS im connecting using wlan, i did a fresh install no vista(sp1) and latest wireless drivers.
please help.

Could be a couple things.

1st off are both PC's/Laptops on wireless or is the Vista Wireless and XP cabled?

There's nothing wrong -- I'm pretty sure your PC-LAN-router/switch setup is using two different IP address ranges, and so Vista is correctly identifying two (logical) networks.
The easiest fix is to merge the two networks into one, making sure the remaining one is Home or Work (not Public).
Do this in Network and Sharing Centre (right-click on the network icon in your task bar).

PS. Wouldn't it be nice of people stopped making doofus comments like 'install XP / Linux / whatever". They clearly don't understand the problem and hence can't propose a solution other than theor own biases.

How do i merge the two networks?

I get a similar issue with the Mega 105 router, under Vista the little network symbol often changes from Full Access with the globe to Local Only, but at no point do I lose connectivity. This is via wireless connection, WPA2 and AES encryption.

So for me it's not a problem, just a minor annoyance.

The other pc at home (running Vista coupled with a wired connection to router) gets that error quite often. Usually a restart from both the router and the pc fixes everything.
