I have Googled but get the usual stuff to check like is my ISP down or does my laptop need new drivers  We have an Asus as our main router in our house and I have run LAN cable to our entertainment area at the back of our property where I used an old Netgear ADSL WiFi router to provide more WiFi coverage. Every single device in our household can connect to our two main WiFi networks (2G and 5G) but our laptops keep giving an Unidentified Network/No Internet Access message after successfully connecting to the entertainment area WiFi. Our phones work perfectly fine, as does a Google Chromecast I setup to use on an old LED TV.

Any ideas?

What wifi channels are you using on the Netgear?

I would start by checking if you can ping your router IP from the laptop.

Or check if it even has a DHCP lease to start with.

Try turning on the randomised MAC setting on one of the laptops and see if it makes a difference.

If it does, it could be an IP conflict causing the issues. I've found that Windows 10 can sometimes give hassles and even doing an ipconfig /release and /renew doesn't seem to give it a new IP.

Take it the cable is running from a lan port on the first router to a lan port on the second router, and DHCP is disabled on that second router.

All devices get IP's from the Asus right? Did you check what IP's the devices get that's not working when connected to the second AP?

I'll have to see how to do this and I'll try my MacBook on the secondary router, it is only Windows laptops at the moment and our nannies Huawei phone that can't connect.

I forget if it is straight from a LAN port on the main router or from a switch I am running as the main router only has four LAN ports. The secondary router was setup with DHCP disabled so all devices get their IP from the main router. I did a quick check with my fiance's laptop and the IP address does not change when moving from the main router WiFi to the secondary WiFi, the only thing that changes apart from the lack of connectivity is that the main router see's the connection as wired and not WiFi.

Had untold shyt with my Asus N55u not connecting on the 2.4G wifi eventually threw it out and no more problems .

Did this start before or after adding the Netgear as an access point?

The issue is only with the Netgear router so I would say after I added it
If DHCP is enabled on the netgear your gateway may also be the netgear router.

Manually assign yourself a static and set your gateway IP to asus and see if it works.

At least you isolated where the problem lies.

Ensure all firmware updates are installed and make sure the router is configured in AP mode?

So...

...someone, and it might have been me but I don't remember doing it, had the LAN cable from our main Asus router plugged in to a normal port on the Netgear router. I plugged it in to the WAN port, rebooted the router and so far so good
