Hi,

I have the following setup (all aps are unifi outdoor series):

Router--ethernet--AP1--wifi--AP2

Can I add AP3? :

Router--ethernet--AP1--wifi--AP2--ethernet--AP3

Will that AP3 work? I know that you cant add a wifi uplink to an AP that is using a wifi uplink, but what about connecting ethernet to extend the network?

Thanks for your time

You can have as many AP's linked by ethernet as you want. Use the same SSID and password but different channels on each AP.
As long as you have ethernet between them you can cover a very large area.

Hi Rocket boy - did you see my diagram? Router--ethernet--AP1--wifi--AP2--ethernet--AP3

does the wifi part break the ethernet link on ap2 to ap3?

Are you connecting AP1 and AP2 via a wifi link? using WDS if you are?
Normally for a setup like that I recommend all AP's being on ethernet connections to the main router.
Still if AP2 and AP3 are connected via ethernet it wont make a difference, would just make the wireless link between AP1 and AP2 the slowest point in the network and the speed that AP3 would work off.

Unfortunately due to the difficult position of everything its not easy to run a cable to AP2. Its only to provide internet, and the max speed available here is 2mbps. So that's the maximum that can ever go through the link. The link is configured in the unifi software, so I think its some Ubiquiti magic.

All I need to do is improve access beyond AP2, because of some really thick walls. It would be neat if I could run a cable into the poorly serviced area and add another AP - maybe an indoor one. I just don't want to order it if it cant work.
