Started using iBurst a week ago , at home in Pineslopes/Lonehill area.
Really not impressed with this service.Speed seems to be no faster than my "stand-by" Helkom dial-up connection.Previously used a Wifi network, in my complex , through a Apple Powerbook , and got solid 128k speeds.
Uploading e-mails and files is escpecially slow,30 min's to send an e-mail with 4Mb attachement in JPegs.....I can time this service with a calender.
Any ideas , maybe settings can be tweaked....

the main thing is find "the sweet spot", I get 120KBps + when its in the sweet spot, sometimes I move it an inch or more and lose all my bandwith. Another thing to remember is they might be performing maintanence in your area as they are trying to get the network as solid as possible for the launch. I can say this.... 128kbits per second is not normal

Up to speed...?

Thanks , but I look like a rain-dancer on acid , hopping about trying to find that elusive sweet spot...
But it seems something is afoot this AM , as this baby is singing..
Can this last , I ask...
Apparantly they put up a tower in Fourways last night...?

Anyone heard anything about antennas, they were meant to be available by now.

gaza, there is a new base station thats very close to where you are (Lonehill), its by the Indaba Hotel - so you should have good signal strength.

alchemy, ive heard that antenna's have arrived - they just testing them. Make sure your name is on the list...

I have already offered to test an omni-antenna on WBS' behalf, but I wasn't aware they had arrived already.

Have to revert to my previous attitude....had some quick action yesterday in the morn, back things have slowed down again...Uploading files on e-mail seems to be a problem.
Anything over 5Mb in attachement stays grounded in my "unsent" box...
Any ideas..
I generally have 4-5 bars in signal strenght..

There might be an size limit on the wbs outgoing server. You should ask them.

Downloaded the Terminal Utility from iBurst site , installed it on a AppleMac Running OSX , and it is dead , nothing moves in that little app..
According to it I am not even logged on..."Signal Strenght 0%" , even though I am on 4 bars on the modem..
Any ideas..
Can the signal be that bad.

First of all, I have no experience on Mac , are you using the USB or ethernet connectivity?
Methinks the Terminal Utility works with USB only. Have u tried it on other OSes to make sure its 'dead'?

Stepper,
You are right , it only runs in USB on the Mac OS, will try and hook it up like that tonight , and hopefully some action on the Terminal..
Will post my results as soon as I have some..
Thkx

works fine on a mac when connected to USB (no ethernet support though - same as windows i suppose). not that it is much use anyway - am getting a constant 98% - 100% signal strength but speed idling below 10KB/s..
