Is there anyone on here that uses Uninet Cape Town. David Jarvis service? If so I would like to hear from you.

Well.... Friend of mine is using it and apparently it was down since yesterday !

***Internet ??? what is it ???***

I used it for awhile. Got it for free for about a week. They couldn't get signal at my friends place, so while the were trying to make a plan I was using it.

The package is kewl for surfing and email but not for games! Thats about about all there is.

I had a good look at Uninetwork just prior to the release of ADSL in Cape Town. The problem with the lowest package is the speed (64k) for general use this is not a train smash and you can get by. The package after the R1200 setup is also affordable and I would recommend it easily for someone who works from home that has little knowledge of the internet.

If you are a technogeek that wants to really get into downloads and even games forget it! There are higher grade packages that will allow you higher bandwidth but they are quite pricey when compared to ADSL. I have spoken with David regarding this issue and his argument is "No Cap" which if you are downloading everyday at 64k will ultimately ring true.

I can not comment on actual performance since I have not actually used it.

I have used it! Downloads are good for a 64k uncapped connection. I was getting constant 7-8k. A guy told me also that you get more bandwidth if its available. For R400 it is defenitely for downloading and surfing/email. However for gaming out of the picture. The long range wireless equipment creates a heavy latency.

On local reason server(warcraft) my latency started at 94 and jumped to 35000 at one point.

at this moment would it not be better to go to Uninetwork rather then Sentech?

yes it would, things have improved drastically. I now get pings of 66 to the reason server. im on the 128k package. One thing I will say, their technical side is very helpful.

Its the old adage - private sector will always be sharper and better than government...
Now if the retard people call the Minister of Communications could actually sign the freaking document allowing deregulation, we wouldn't have to care about poser parastatals...

Waited 3 weeks for telkom to install adsl. They have not called me back yet.Have just joined uninet & myadsl!. So far excellent service and speed. All they promised is true. Am on maitland silo antenna. 54% signal. Downloads at 7-8 kbit on 56k package.

I use them.. good pings, browsing and download speeds good, ftp is horrible.

Yesterday was quite something, couldn't get 1KB/s downloading a 300KB file via HTTP. Today it's a bit better tho.. they always very helpful when one calls, and it's a good thing P2P is barely usable with them cos then the bandwidth would disappear.

Ok interested, unfortunately no-one answers either telephone on the website. Not a good sign. What about speeds between other uninet users - is that capped as well?

its capped at wateva package you got. When were you calling? There was a tower upgrades scheduled they were all very busy with that. They are also starting out in PE. they hav an national call centre number: 086 111 2871 try that
