Has anyone tried Uninet's wireless wdsl.co.za?

http://www.wdsl.co.za/index.php?contentType=PRODUCT&category=HOME

R250 for 56K with no cap sounds pretty decent to me. Not cheap per byte but the relatively low price is nice.

Just noticed this which seems conflicting:

No Download managers and p2p programs (e.g Kazaa)
Unlimited Downloads (no Caps);

How would you like to buy a car on the condition that you cannot drive it out of town?
How would you like to shop at a supermarket on the condition that you eat the food you buy on their premises?
I just can't get over the mentality of these product offerings. Is this just a South African thing? [?]

Dunno bout p2p, I dont use it. And Skype works fine these days from what ive heard.

onionpeel: My car is soo old that it would be a health hazard for me to drive it out of town

We are Telkom - Resistance is Futile - You will be Assimilated

Onionpeel... I suspect that it is. I myself don't use p2p either, but nobody likes to be told "You can't do this and you can't do that" when other people elsewhere are paying less for something better while not having to deal with crap like this.

Telkom se ma...

I currently have Uninet, the 64k home package. Have had this for almost 2 years now. They have improved a lot over the time but there are still major issues. P2P is dead, let them try tell you its not, but it is. If you have http or ftp to download from then Uninet are great, if however you plan on using Torrent forget about it.

The other problem is that there is no warning as to when they are going to go down. Without warning, bang, no more international link.

I am now converting to ADSL 384k. The extra per month is worth the constant service and not having to beg for service from Uninet.

I also only now noticed the setup charge:

Activation R1250
Installation R1200

They can forget it at R2450!

If it wasn't for those initial high Activation and Installation costs, I would definitely have been interested in giving them a try. I've heard very conflicting feedback about their service - some people are very happy and others are very unhappy, so I wasn't prepared to lose R2500 with the hope that I might be happy with the service.

like everyone tells you. P2P sucks on any wireless service in South Africa at the moment, reason being it just eats too much bandwidth. I can agree with this and live without p2p. The thing do need is bit-torrent.

I am quite happy with Uninet. Sure the down time every now and then is anoyying. The thing is, its the intl link that dies (usually at night), their saix link. Its problamatic, i wonder why.
If itl goes down, its like bleh. Wait about an hour everything is back. Last month I downloaded 11gigs, I got all the anime i needed without a problem. Currently its the 9th octorber I dl'd 3 gigs. That would mean by now I would of been capped long ago considering this is only my downloads through flash get. It is by far better in my case.

I vary nice combo to do is, wdsl64 plus a satellite thing from mweb or whoever provides it.

Freeek: Is p2p so bad that you can't even download an mp3? Or is that still possible?

I don't know how bad p2p is. I don't use p2p other than bit torrent. Torrents usually stay on 1.1k. They do however "sometimes" go up2 about 9k if you lucky. everything http is gr8
