I just bought 4 copies of KAV09 for my home computers.

Got them from Matrix @ R160 each.

Started installing and then KAV09 started whining that there were other "incompatible programs" I had to uninstall first. Problem is... they were all uninstalled!!!

Soooo... I had to go and find removal tools for McAfee, BitDefender, AVG8 (yes I have tried a lot of anti-virus programs in my quest for the best). I did have Eset NOD32, but the trial ran out and I am not paying R350.00 for one year of that.

Why don't the Anti-Virus programs just include the removal tool as part of the un-installer?? Why do they make you have to go to their website to find an uninstaller to clean out all of their crap. I am now convinced more than ever that AVG8 and BitDefender 10 are a steaming festering pile of crap.

so.....the KAV09 installer said it was checking if a newer version was available, then proceeded to install version 409.

When it was completed it started to download the updates... it took forever!

Then rebooted and came up with a message "databases are corrupt"

so downloaded again... wasting huge amounts of bandwidth

same thing happened on all other computers... wasted hundreds of megabytes.

Eventually I decided to grab the manual updates... but...

which to grab... I see there are updates for version 5, 6 or 7... but which are for KAV09????

How am I supposed to tell??? Do they just assume their users will guess?

so I grabbed the 7 version hoping for the best... but KAV09 does not recognize them... it still wants to update.

HELP!!!!!!!!! It should not have to be this hard!

oh by the way... when on the website... I also noticed that there was a later version of KAV09 (506) ??? so how come the installer did not pick up the newer version?

Whoooa. Why did you do that?

Why not just buy a multi-user licence. I think Kaspersky sells with 3 licences as is or you can download and buy such a version online. In addition if only one PC will be connected to the web why not just install on that PC and use free products on the others.

Kaspersky is pretty cr@ppy in that it requires you to uninstall Comodo Personal Firewall and other products first. It's a bad product.

I have had nothing but problems with Kaspersky - how I wish I'd never bought it.

... already tried Avast and chucked it as a dead loss. It deleted a ton of files without even asking and I couldn't get the exception feature to work. :(

I've been through ...

AVG8
Avast
BitDefender
ClamWin
McAfee
Panda

.. and a few others... each one had its problems that caused me to uninstall.

I was happy with Eset NOD32... but it is too expensive.

3 PCs on the Kaspersky online store was $90 (R900)
5 PCs on the Kaspersky online store was $140 (R1400)

I got four licenses for R640.00 by buying it from Matrix.

They are all up and running now. I finally figured out how to get the one to take its updates from the other. So I should hopefully only have to update one computer and the others will all auto-update.

Will give feedback on the performance of Kaspersky in the coming weeks.

I am running Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0.0.506
Can't say it has given me any problems. Also had that database error once.
Best is to update from the downloaded file.

At the best of times I find Anti Virus a pain in the derrière. Consumes resources and slows my PC. I have to keep it within my network on the Windows Machines used by the family. My son got a nasty virus this year from downloading a patch for a game.
My own machine is clean from one year to the next. Sometimes I fail to see why I even bother with an Anti Virus.

well I'm hoping the free anti-virus vendors get their act together and release some halfway decent programs in 2009. I don't wanna fork out this much money every year for something that I hope never happens.

Hopefully Win7 will have these features built in for free as well.

Kaspersky is cheaper in the Incredible Connection that it is online. You can buy the Internet Security 2009 for around R400 for 3 licences. Cheaper than Mania as well.

I never have trouble uninstalling. You just use the Control Panel - and it takes care of everything. Most big AV packages will clash with each other, especially if you're using a SUITE.

I find it pretty good. It does like to be up-to-date though. ADSL comes in handy.

I have tryed out all the other Antivirus programs and Kaspersky is by far my favourite.

+ 100000

I was using NOD, worked VERY well. License ran out and so decided that R295 renewal fee was too much, I installed Avast.

Awesome product. Free, reliable and spartan on resources.

Love it.

Just cause its almost 2009 i WON'T post a link to a This is Sparta pic

Didn't anyone else find that Kaspersky slowed down their computer like severely? I have sporadic 10 minute computer freezes.

I have been paying my subs for AVG Pro and CA every 2 years . AVG is R200 odd for TWO years and CA is R400 odd For TWO years.
AVG has a single user license (the reason I wont be renewing in April) and CA has NINE user licences spread across 4 sub catagories in the package.

I dont use the web scanner or the parental control , but do use the anti ivirus, anti spyware, anti spam and e-mail checker.

I will not go back to the seriously inferior FREE editions of these products.
Im happy to pay my fees every two years.

stop threadcrapping

I've never had issues before with anyone on this forum, so you must have done something to deserve this. Take a good look at yourself and make a resolution for 2009 for the better, just advice dude, if you don't like it, ignore ;)

There are some things you shouldn't compromise on, one being the AV protection on your PC. The other being the OS.

you gave your opinion on kaspersky, something that you are entitled to, but in doing so you quoted my reply (which had no reference to you whatsoever) and i simply interpreted that as your way of seeking attention, in which case i would suggest you start your own thread, coz we're kinda going off topic here ok . . .
