Craig is that you? :wtf: :p

Lol sorry got a mate in Randburg also driving a Type R.

Didn't actually know you could chip the Type R, I would definitely go for it.

Sorry can't advise on which chip though. Good luck!

Heya bud, nope it's not Craig. Yeah u can, they claim 10% increase in performance, but yeah, dunno if that can be trusted.... :)

I would opt for the Hondata FlashPro based on the fact that it is specifically designed for your brand. Peter de Weerd's product are good as well. Always remember which tuner is more important than which product.

Thread HIJACK

So i was looking at getting a chip for my polo 1.6 petrol, and trying to decide between a chip or software upgrade.
I decided the software upgrade is the better option.
What places should I be looking at to have this done and the average price range?

software gains for NA cars are not that great
i think your cash would be better spent on an exhaust...

Software gains on N/A would be pretty much 0.

I'll give it to you in writing ;)

Even the Honda Civic Type R (N/A) will have 0 gains. UNLESS they increase the rev limit. Which is probably what they are going to do. Or maybe the engine has been modified?

Is "Hondata FlashPro" a software only update? If yes I would take that over UniQ.

I haven't heard anything bad yet on UniQ seen some BMW etc making good gains with that chip but I think you should check on the Honda forum to see what they would recommend for performance tuning on the type R. :)

There's turbo cars that only make 10% or so more with software. With N/A cars it basically comes down to it's not worth modifying them for performance (unless you go forced induction)

You couldn't be more wrong about that. Software yes, but there are plenty of N/A engines that can be pushed way beyond normal engine limits.

Fine examples are:
Opel C20XE 2.0L 16v engine which originally made 115kW, N/A it can make up to ~220kW.
Honda Civic Type R Mugen edition which is also 2.0L 16V making ~190kW.

Those engines rev incredibly quick and can run at 9000rpm. Many of the engines used in Open Cart racing, rally and Super 2000 use N/A 2L making the same power as your average BMW 335 which is turbo charged 3.0L inline 6.

Price wise I'd say it isn't worth it, but in no way is the performance not worth it. The car revs much faster than Turbo charged engines, sound much nicer and generally feel very responsive.
