Hey guys
Im not to sure any of you can help but maybe can point me in the right direction, a couple of users at M-Net have a webmail account setup to access email when we away from werk ie Kenya etc.. Now the prob comes in when using iburst with our webmail, it seems we can connect using any connection adsl, 3g, gprs... u name it - Except *Drum roll* Iburst. I just tested the webmail addy on my gprs cellphone n was able to login. Phoned Iburst support they mentioned that our IS department might be blocking ip's - So i phoned our IS department and they replied with "That htttp webmail is made so anyone around the world can login, its the most open http it can be" So now im caught between a rock n a hard place - its critical that ours users at M-Net be able to check our work emails. It seems whenever i use my iburst connection it just timeouts (page cannot b found)
Any suggestions to this regard would be very helpful
Andrew

the iburst comment about "might be blocking ip's" is crap. they must catch a wake up. why would anybody that host a webmail service for their users to access their email from anywhere, then go and block one of the biggest wireless providers??? i mean come on. can you get to other things? like browse the intenret? have you tried to log in to another webmail account maby like gmail or webmail.co.za ? if you can get to it from 3g/gprs then everything on the webserver's side seems fine. must be your iburst connection

Lol @ *drum roll* was quite funny :)

good luck mate!

tell iburst "if you dont solve the problem by the end of today please send me the forms needed to cancel my subscription" then you will see how quick they find the problem

Thnx 4 the quick response... Yeah everything is perfect, we have a few users at M-Net on iburst, all report with no problems at all with browsing any page, good speeds and gmail works perfectly. Weird i tell you! - Just our Mnet webmail doesnt work??? Hmm just spoke to helpdesk again... They suggested running the iburst modem directly through pc and not through the router and try. Maybe the router is blocking the site...

Urg.. Iburst helpdesk really hate routers. No your router isnt blocking the site, what a retarded suggestion. It would only do that if set it to do so... and I doubt that.

Could you give the page please so that some of us could try?

Mmmm... now this reminds me of the issues we're having with iBurst and Smoothwall... same issues - you can connect via smoothwall, but cant ftp or pop3 until you replace the smoothwall with something else...

Shot 4 all the replies, seems to be working 4 now but *drumroll* give it time hehe

((Update)) So it works sumtimes...? We have narrowed the problem down, now i just wanna know what you guys think. So we cannot access the webmail site from any iburst connection during the day as it timeouts (page not found) BUT during the evenings its a different story, it connects fine. A colleague mentioned maybe we should change the reg settings for Internet Explorer. Found a lil app that basically modifies the DNS Cache timeout, Keep Alive Timeout and Server Info Timeout. and modified them... DNS 30min, Keep Alive 5min and Server Info 5min - checked the ie reg settings in regedit and it did modify them. Tried again and it didnt seem to work n then bang its evening and it works?!! I dunno??? What you guys think???
The webmail addy in question is https://mobilemail.nmscom.net/exchange its our M-Net Mobile webmail.
If anyone has some suggestions pls pls pls throw them my way
Thanks in advance

I think you shouldnt be using IE. At all.

Opera or FF, and that in order of importance.

If you have to use IE, then at least IE 7. The RC 1 works fine, even for work use.

But that is an interesting problem, strange why it wouldnt work during the day, the speeds cant be that bad on a local server than you can only access somethin during the day.. are you shure its not the servers that are over crowded or something? I doubt that... but its hard to see why it could be Iburst.

Thnx 4 getting back 2 me sooo quickly, its weird...! Ive tried Opera, FF and IE7 RC1 all the same thang, During the day i can connect to the webmail addy from any connection, even gprs running Opera on my Nokia9500 but not with Iburst. I also thought it could be my connection but i tried 5 different people all with Iburst and they cannot connect during the day but around the 6:30 mark Bam im in with Iburst. Me gets gun... Now only if i knew who to shoot hehe

the problem wont be your IE. all it can be that somewhere between you and the server one of the connections gets over busy during the day, if it was a setting thats wrong it wont work at night either. from what you've said its also not on your server side as it works normally on any other connection, therefor it may be the link between iburst and your server's ISP, or between you and iburst, however if you can get to any other website and everything on your iburst is fine, the only place i can see where the problem is is between Iburst and whoever your servers connection is handled by?

if you can connect at night, and not in day, its not the software you are using, software dont "sleep".

I agree, almost seems Iburst's traffic is heavy during the day, maybe businesses etc... So connecting to the webmail timesout, funny that it only happens to the webmail account and no other websites tho? Well i've got alot of amo 2 fire @ Iburst support and some knowledge of whats goin on. Thanks again for all the help tis greatly appreciated

Okay Okay i know i've been going on about this friggin annoying problem 4 ages!!! Well with no help from IS @ M-Net or Iburst ive finally damn well narrowed down the problem to a fine art. Here is my conclusion and a recap...

Im trying 2 connect to Mnets webmail / I thought it was a problem with iburst coz it seemed to connect @ night & not in the day and sooooooo the saga continues... I thought bugger this and ive tried everything and i mean everything, when tonight i decided lemme turn off my routers "spi firewall" (Netgear WGT624 V3) and wada ya know IT WORKS!!!! i turned the spi firewall and it stoppped working. So it was on my damn well side the whole time! So its my firewalls router.

My question to guys is this... Is the Spi firewall important??? i know that it stops dos attacks but do i deff need it on? and y? would the firewall be stopping the webmail http but doesnt have a problem on any other sites?? Any suggestions???
All i know is that i cant even begin to tell you guys how damn well HAPPY i am to finally pin point the problem - I can finally get a good night sleep without dreaming about the damn stooopid webmail not working!
Again shot 4 any help
Reckless

((Update))
Im loosing my mind, Just tried the with the spi firewall ON and it worked *sigh* im gonna go 2 the vet and get put down.

((Update Update))
Well i turned the spi firewall OFF and now its stopped working.
So now what? before turned it off and it worked, then turned it on and it didnt work then tried a little later it worked, so i turned it off and now it doesnt work - Im goin Insane i tell ya! and what do u know now its working with it on and off. Arg i give up, now i think it has nothing to do with the spi firewall!
