So I registered with Unisa for BSc and paid for Semester 2 modules. After jumping through hoops (many of them), I finally got my letter confirming my registration acceptance. I've been told that my exams are in November and that I can get my study material online.

So I go to the 'my unisa' portal to register for my 'free email' blah blah... but I CAN'T REGISTER because they have a different ID number on their system for me.

So I email them and get the usual "we will respond to you shortly, here is your case number, thank you - L. Molamu".
It's been a week and no response.

So I try their phone number and the answering machine says "You can't phone us anymore - you have to SMS or email".

So I guess that's it? Since you can't phone them and they don't respond to email, I am snookered? Anyone know how to get through to these twits so I can either get my money back or get my issue solved?

Seems everyone is having the same issue...

My suggestion regarding UNISA: Just say no.

Over the last 5 years they have become badder each year. I'm still waiting for responses to e-mails I sent the beginning of this year. Visit one of the Unisa offices if it is very urgent.

Have you registered a complaint on hellopeter? Used to be they responded (Unisa phoned me) to complaints there.
I finished my degree several years ago and fortunately have nothing more to do with Unisa registrations.
You may have to visit in person. Sucks that they won't take phone calls.

Complain on hellopeter.....its the only way you get a response. I don't bother emailing anymore....I just hellopeter their sorry asses lol.

I email them few months ago. Took much longer than a week to get a reply.
When i got the reply it did not answer my question completely and i was forced to email again.
That was a few weeks ago. Still no answer.

I feel that we should just flood their email accounts with thousands of crap questions.....even get people who aren't even students just to make a stupid enquiry. Maybe they will then decide to do away with this crap email system.

I've noticed something, off topic is slowly creeping into CA :erm:

yip thats what I do now when I don't get a response through their "amazing" new email / sms system. I look on the unisa site and just start phoning all the number I find and bug the people till they put me through to someone who can help.

When they first did the swop from call center to this crap system I posted a comment on their website asking them to explain why they did this and how it isnt working already. They didnt reply. They just dont care.

I have already been through that process more than once. I got responses, but sometimes weeks later. I can't wait weeks - exams are in November. They are pathetic.

Didn't realise they responded to hellopeter - I guess it was the sheer number of complaints I saw without response. I've complained now. Hopefully they fix it.

Finally they responded to my second email from earlier this week (after I registered my complaint on hellopeter, mind). The explanation was that my ID number was 'Spelled wrong'

LOL. Now I have to fax a copy of my ID doc to them (which they have on file since I couriered a certified copy to them two weeks ago), so they can correct the spelling of my ID number:p

Lol, glad you got sorted. Any queries you want to know from now just hellopeter their asses. Works better than emailing.

1 day (after exams I'm going to compare all the hellopeter complaints, statistics etc and email it to everyone on the contact list gievn above and ask them if they really think their system is working.

Nice idea! I don't think they'll read your mail, however, unless it happens to be published in the Sunday Times ;)

My feeling is this country needs to know that it's not just school level education that's in dire straits in SA. Since UNISA is the only distance uni around these parts, it really does need to be jacked up and the fatcats 'working' there need to have a fire lit under their butts.

Another whinge for my course... they include Dev-C++ in their materials folder... seriously... Dev-C++

They could at least include a link to Code::Blocks or other similar free C++ compiler that works well on Windows 7 64 etc. Dev-C++ hasn't been touched for some time. Many newbies to IT or software dev would be lost at this point.

I think if enough people complain to carte blanch they may just run a story on this. I mean sometimes they run crap stories that are so trivial (in my opinion compared to this whole Unisa issue). I have emailed them (carte blanch) before but they obviously didn't even consider it as look at Africa's best country......Their top university in the best country in Africa doesn't even have a call centre, and have a FAIL communication system......I mean really.....I would be embarrassed to even be part of unisa if I was an employee or representative for them.
