Has anyone here flown united airlines before?

Are they any good?

Might need to fly to the USA tomorrow and just looking around at carriers.

Nice...you going on holiday?

You can maybe look at Delta Airlines also. I have seen their planes at Cape Town Int once. But I think they only fly out of Cape Town and not Joburg.

I would rather go with SAA if its cheaper or the same price.

A sort of last minute holiday :)

Need to get away for a while and decided L.A would be best :)

SAA wanted to charge me R56000 for an ECONOMY ticket!

United is charging R13689

28 hour travel time though :(

Have you had a bad experience with United ,Catweasel?

Non-stop options from Johannesburg:
- Delta airlines to Atlanta, Georgia (IAD)
- United Airlines to JFK, New York (JFK)
- SAA to JFK, New York (JFK)
- SAA to Atlanta, Georgia (IAD)

There are "direct" stop-over options available too (via Dakar, Senegal) for both United and SAA if you like to get out and stretch your legs a bit instead of being strapped inside an aluminium can, hurtling through the skies for 15 hours straight.

Delta, United-Continental, both excellent airlines. Would probably go with the latter, but really depends on where you want to go

THANKS!

SAA is charging 50+ for an economy ticket! CRAZY!

Guess it is between delta and united...

if u flying out with united .. then you will most likely fly out on an SAA flight, as they have a code share. Coming back would be either SAA or united flight.
Basically almost the same as SAA(I think) .... except our flight attends are generally a lot nicer :)
but i would go with delta as they generally cheaper ... also .... if you flying via JFK(always a parking lot with no bays) ... expect delays .. so that 28 hour flight ... can become a bit longer.
That price for SAA is ridiculous though ... you would def get a cheaper price if you go via a travel agent ... try flight center ... they generally cheap

Both Delta and United-Continental codeshare with SAA

Both Delta and United-Continental codeshare with SAA

last time I checked (about 6 months ago) delta did not code share with SAA, but with BA.
not sure about continental .... but know that united def code share with SAA ... they part of star alliance, while BA and delta part of some other alliance.
things may have changed though .... but best to check with a travel agent

hmm.. nevermind it appears I have outdated info. They used to codeshare with Delta.. but phased that out in favour of United. Sorry

btw United-Continental is one airline. They merged :)

looks like i am going to go with delta.

Going out on a a380 operated by air france and coming back on a 777 operated by delta.

Stoping in atlanta.

the atl-lax stretch is on delta 767's.

hope i am not on the first a380 crash. that would be a sucky holiday.

total price is 18000.

not too bad.

Nope. No bad experience. But the united flight was the second leg of my journey, the first leg being an SAA flight. SAA was a little better.

As i said, if the SAA one was cheaper i would have gone for it.

For me, most airlines are pretty much the same. Price is the biggest differentiator.
