Unity is Dead....

I found NodeJS and Python trivial to set up on Windows. Looking at the instructions Rust looks to be trivial too.

Unless you're an administrator you pretty much won't be doing a lot more than your programming work on them. But my life isn't infinitely long, so I'd rather not spend it mucking around with maintaining a Linux desktop unless I truly can't put together the money for a Mac.

Not sure what you mean by that bit.
Linux you could swap between machines and just use a script to install all your packages that you require (using terminal). Then for updates/upgrades you can use the package manager or just use terminal again with a one-liner.

Very difficult maintenance. :p

To the Windows shills in this thread, how do you live with that awful font rendering? I'm not a Mac fan at all, but I must say that, in my opinion, they have the best font rendering. Windows, without a doubt, has the worst.

Once you've seen proper font rendering, it can't be unseen.

Whoa there tiger, I reckon macs have worst fuzzy headache inducing fonts. Windows fonts are not great but at least they sharp. You get the best fonts in linux I reckon and if you want to you can install the ubuntu fonts in windows which is a pleasure on the eyes.
