Universal mobile data tariffs for Southern Africa planned

Call me jaded but this just means competition goes out the window and it's all 'regulated'. i.e. we're going to be fleeced.
 
Already seems bad to me as the operating costs in e.g. Zimbabwe countryside would be vastly different than offering it within a city such as Cape Town.
Cape Town most of the infrastructure would "pay for itself" very quickly, in Zim they don't have a lot of money to pay for services, therefore the costs would take longer to write off. This would stop a lot of roll-out/upgrades.

Spectrum costs are also different in all of the countries and the cost of service would be different depending on the operators set-up.

Is this not what I was preaching this whole time. Still to early to tell, but this is a step closer to "Utility" status

Hello Jaded.

I think the intention is to look like a great act in consumerism but quite rightly, these offers you get from Crystal Web and Afrihost / Axxess will slowly start to die because of that regulated price and that really is the only place where competition has been even remotely active in this part of the market.
