So I am new to Android development...God, another one of those "I am new posts"...

And I want to create a Universal remote for my Appliances at home.

It will be using IR.

1) Can this be done?
2) Where can i get datasheets or key codes of button presses from my Yamaha and LG appliances?
3) What else do I need to know?
4) What else do I need to ask?

Thanks in advance

What IR device you using? What is it connected to?
What appliances you trying to control?

For me personally the devices i have connect to the network so it's easier to control the whole thing via wifi than IR and also mean no line of sight needed.

I am hoping to use it in any android device that has IR, but I am developing it in this...phone VM thing.

Wifi is an option, I am not at that phase yet, I am only at placing buttons on the screen, then i will do my button events after that, then I will play with either wifi or IR.

Does the button/key codes work the same over wifi?

Personally, having used the XBMC app, which works over WiFi - it is much better than IR. However, if your home appliances are not network ready - then, IR is the only option.

Lastly, if they are network ready - do they allow incoming instructions over the network?

before the UI design - look at the engine - see what your options are to begin with.

Have you written any application for your phone to control your devices?
