Is there anything like a unversal SMTP server? i use 3 different isp's on an ongoing basis, and am constantly irritated with having to change my smtp server on my outlook depending on where i am.

the 3 isps are saix, afrihost and vodacom, none of which allow a different server for outgoing mail. is there an smtp server that i can use that will be accepted by all 3, saving me the trouble of having to change the settings all the time?

In general, what you're looking for would be an authenticated SMTP host; since open SMTP relays are A Bad Thing.

One suggestion I can make is to have a gmail account as your primary SMTP address (with SSL and authentication turned on -- there are instructions in gmail's help) which will remove the "source IP related" issue you are having with ISP-based SMTP servers.

+1

You don't even have to use the gmail account, just use it for sending. You might have to authorise sending from the from addresses you use though. (easy enough, in the gmail settings)

or just create 3 accounts in outlook with the diferrent smtp servers and set them all to no auto recieve/send and then when sending or replying use the send from option....

The better option is not 3 different accounts but 3 different profiles. Same info and pst files, just an option to save different smtp servers. When you open outlook it will prompt you to choose which profile you want.

Surely there is an auth'd voda smtp server?

I know mweb has one & works just fine from any connection.
