Been thinking of getting an ipod touch & apple tv.

I have alot of videos that i wanna convert for the ipod touch & apple tv.

Anyone know a universal video format/resolution that will work on both the ipod touch & apple tv ?

Has anyone tested 640 x 480 resolution videos on the apple tv, how is the quality? What resolution is the best to use on the apple tv ?

Also, what apps are you using for best quality conversion & fast conversion times ?

Majority of all my videos are around the following:

608 x 336 pixels (Actual)
MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz
23.98

From dvd I use handbrake otherwise I use ffmpegX. MPEG4 works great but quality wise I prefer h264 even though its slower.

I size my dvds to 688x384 - not really sure why I picked that size (perhaps I just copied it off a download), in h264. I use a bitrate of 2000 kbits/s
h265 bwana? must be some new standard ;)
Yeah - I do that a lot for some reason :o

bwana, do you have an apple tv, ipod video, or ipod touch that your videos with 688x384 resolution will play?

688x384 seems like a good resolution coz its widescreen & id choose widescreen any day compared to my 640x480 videos.

The apple specification page on the website specifies 640 x 480 but with the different types of ipods, the apple tv, iphone, etc.. it gets confusing + each video plays the same or different resolutions.

Thought id get a reply from someone who has a apple tv & ipod touch.

Unfortunately for you I only have a mini (that I use as a entertainment centre) and not the Tv. My fat nano plays the video's fine but to save space on the device I reduce them to 320x . . FFmpegX makes short work of the conversion.
