Hello all!

This is my first post on this site . I am looking at applying to university next year. I have a keen interest in Blockchain, AI and machine learning but I would like to specialise in Blockchain technology as it is a major component of the fourth industrial revolution. However, these is no blockchain focused course offered at a South African university. Therefore, I would like to know what courses would you recommend taking at university, preferably UCT or Stellenbosch, to prepare myself for this industry.

Thank You

What you can do in the meantime is self-study blockchain architecture & development & then start doing freelance blockchain coding for smaller crypto projects. Despite the current market, there's still a lot of startups looking for competent blockchain developers. Or create your own ERC20, your own dapp development etc. or fork another chain and get to grips with it.

What aspect of it? Most of this will be self-study, probably CS degree, could maybe also look at Maths > Cryptography, or networking side of it, etc.

Take a look at the European universities - you'll also find the people there a lot more civil than the 2 uni's you mentioned here ;)

Germany and The Netherlands have some very good English medium courses in various facilities, and if you've got citizenship or have close family there it can be cheaper than SA as well

Obviously, you should do a CS major. On top of that, I suggest second major in one of maths, stats or applied maths. Take at least two of them to 2nd year level. After that, a CS honours and possibly masters would set you up nicely for a career in the above.
