Hi all,

Recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 on my HP Notebook. Installed all the latest Windows Updates, ran HP Support assistant and downloaded all the necessary drivers.

There is one driver however, that neither Windows Update nor the HP app seems to recognize. It's simply listed as "Unknown Device", located on the PCI bus. I've attached a screenshot with the item's ID. Any help with finding this driver will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

USB 3.0 drivers, especially in laptops, are notorious for not working on the native Windows drivers. That's why Samsung was in the headlines recently for disabling Windows Update - because it kept on overwriting the drivers that worked. Not that makes them right to block windows update, but it just shows how annoying this problem can get!

Tell us what drivers you did install.

Chipset drivers, HDD controllers, Bluetooth, Network (both wireless and ethernet), Graphics, Sound, Card reader, USB, DVD drive, Camera, Touchpad and the rest I can't remember. :p

What model HP Notebook?

Acdording to the HP.com support site:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#2

Download the above file (chipset drivers) and run it to let it unpack itself. Go to the folder that was just unpacked:

C:\AMD\Support\13-4_vista_win7_win8_32-64_sb\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\USB30\amdxhc\W764A

inside there are 3 files and a folder called 'x64'

in 'x64' there is a single file called 'amdxhc.sys'

move 'amdxhc.sys' up one directory along with the other 3 files

then use the Device Manager to update driver and browse all the way down to where the now 4 files are and hopefully this should work

Then repeat from the beginning except start at

C:\AMD\Support\13-4_vista_win7_win8_32-64_sb\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\USB30\amdhub\W764A

Then point Device Manager to that folder instead of asking to search for drivers on the net and it should then install it.

It's an HP Pavilion 15 n214si.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately I have no AMD hardware in this machine. While there are models that come equipped with AMD GPUs or other hardware, this one is solely Intel.

Recently bought myself a cheap HP 250 for R3999 (upgraded the RAM to 8GB and put in a WD Dual Drive SSD/HDD), I don't like win 8.*, so I decided to put Win7 on there.

So I copy the drivers and other softwares off as is under the SWSetup folder on all HP laptops onto a portable drive.

Install Win7.

No LAN or Wifi devices have drivers, no USB working either due to missing drivers. Actually had to write a CD with the USB drivers on, to put into the CD ROM so I could install it and get the rest of the drivers on lol.

Had the same problem. I downloaded the Network drivers from a different laptop, just so I could get online and grab the rest. It wasn't sunshine and roses either, since this notebook has many different variations apparently, all with different network adapters. At least we know our hardware is new. :D:p
