Hi guys,

I only have today to try figure this out :/

I have a CD loaded with files without file extensions. I have tried saving some of the files to hdd and changing their extensions and opening them with Adobe Reader, word, ppt, bmp, jpg, tif etc.

Obviously I don't have a program that supports these files.

I tried contacting the people who sent it but the person and the Mac IT person is on leave. I have established a relation to Macintosh and these files.

I have XP :/

So is there any quick software out there that can determine file types without file extensions or is their any other way I can do this??

FYI I always google first and none of the potentials helped me at all. TransMac doesn't open these files it just seems to record CD's from Mac to something else.

But as these files don't even have file extensions therein lies my problem...thanks though :)

any other suggestions welcome.

try looking at the body of the file

i always use total commander and use the F3(view) on a file to see the "inside" of it

try view with notepad/wordpad

look then at the top of the document

post that into google.

Ah...thanks for the Hex editor suggestion :)

To the right of the Hex Editor I see somewhere amongst the 0's the name Freehand.

So I take it this file opens with Freehand. I know freehand and it requires a license...I will have to google an alternative freeware for now.
