I just got an old iphone 4 from a mate and it is locked to Vodafone in the UK. We spoke to Vodafone and they said they will unlock it for any network, just plug it into iTunes in 48 and it's good to go.

So my question is, will any iTunes do or does it have to be the iTunes of the guy I got it from and that it was previously synced to?

I suspect any iTunes will do, anyone have any knowledge on this? Cheers!

EDIT: I should say that his iTunes is on his laptop back in the UK, the phones not nicked.

Any iTunes will do. I got AT&T to unlock an iPhone 4 for me last year... As soon as I got the unlock confirmation from them, I plugged the phone into the PC, iTunes opened and I don't remember if I had to fully restore the phone or if it just unlocked... But no Apple ID of previous owner was required :)

Fantastic, thanks for that. I'll wait for the confirmation then :)

Yep, plugged in at lunch time on my own iTunes and it was good to go :)

EDIT: For anyone who finds this info useful, I should add that I never got any confirmation, just plugged it in on the off chance and it unlocked. It asked for a sim card so I put in my Vodacom one which is not registered in this country for roaming (Senegal).
