Good day

I'm looking at a .co.za domain name, and from a .co.za lookup, i see that this domain name has been registered in 2000 already, yet the page is still not active and doesn't seem to have ever been used:

Isn't there some sort of expiry on using a domain ? Should i contact the owner and hear if they want to sell? what is the procedure here?

Also, it's not a brand name, or trademark name or something like that

Very possible that the domain is only used for email. As long as they pay the domain fee each year, it won't expire. Your only option would be to try and contact the owner to find out if they would be interested in selling.

Look up the domain name here:
http://co.za/whois.shtml

Contact the owner..

but them not having a website is no indication that the domain is used or not... they more than likely only use it for email, and some internal services.

If its been registered since 2000, chances of the owner wanting to part with it are slim to none.

I've been contacted by someone that wanted one of my "unused" domains (I use it very rarely for mails and tests and was willing to part with it)

It was registered in 2002, so I told him, if you want it, R75 x 13 would be my price (R975). This will reimburse me for the registration I paid over the years only (paid up till next year) so he benefits in an aged domain, and there's no profit or domain squatting from my side since I don't profit from it at all.

I think he expected getting it for free.

Just because there is no website on the domain, don't think it's not being used, ask, be willing to fork out some cash for it if the owner does agree to part with it, but don't think you have some right to it just because it's not used and registered by someone else
