Whats the best unofficial/hacked wow server us South Africans can play on. I tried a couple but not one is playable (lag +/-3000ms). Anyone else having any success?

get nukecap and play WoW on the legit servers... unless you dont have a legit WoW key?

+- 3000? something is wrong with ur connection .....

if he is connecting to an overseas server thats the average shaped connection speed thanks to Telkom... sad but true.

I class un-official WoW servers in the same class as Government issue CONDOMS!!!

Case in point:

Server: codeserver.ath.cx

When I ping this server I get average of 500ms. When I play on this server I get 1400ms initially and later jump to 2400ms. How does this ping thing work? Am I missing something somewhere?

I get an average of 1000ms on a shaped connection to Silver Hand.

I get between 400 and 900ms on Stormrage. (average 600-700)

Overmind....the reason the latency to the server when pinged differs so much from the in game latency on emulated servers is because the emulation is what's creating the delay. On average the emu really begins to suffer when there's in excess of 100 ppl on the server this creates artificial latency, this has nothing to do with your actual latency to the server.

Emu's are getting better all the time, but if you really want to experience the game I would strongly recommend official! Emu's have just to many problems and lack content.

well no

doing a ping to the server codeserver.ath.cx
, telkom c*#t f^%$er ba%$^rds do not shape the ping (icmp)......

so your little ping goes along freely and returns all in nice speed

but when you play your game, you connect on port xxxxxx, which is by default shaped, so your data goes along, gets to a point where it waits cause all the http and ftp and mail data gets priority first, then it proceeds onwards hence the huge time!

I would happily sign up for WoW official if we actually had a realistic option....

WoW is really not that expensive, and playing on a hacked server is really going to give you about 1% of the enjoyment of the official game. It's just not worth it. Either get unshaped ADSL or go via something like NukeCAP's VPN.

Otherwise, leave it. Play online chess.

I dont really think its such a good idea to be advertising Illegal WoW servers on MyAdsl, we could get into some s%^& with blizzard...

Yeah...it's like R100/month for an unlimited amount of time online. Where else can you get that ratio?

just sounds like alot to pay for a game.... a whole year that R1200+... BF2 u pay for the game (R300) and nothing else... or am i cheap.... could be :)

Well not realy, this is secondhand info (from an admin of an 'illegal' server), Blizzard is not intersted at all in Africa. They do not believe the market is big enough down here. This admin actualy contacted them in this regard, wanting to set-up a 'legal' server and they could not be bothered a rats-arse about the whole thing.

As to the cost thing. I spend R300-00 plus per month on 'legal' gaming. I would not mind to add WOW, as well as some others, to my little list of vices, but then I want a fast access to the game, that is not possible in this country, so what is the use...

I wouldnt be so sure Wolfling, i know of 2 illegal servers in S.A that were shut down by blizzard when they found out a couple of months ago

Yeah...and they're going to make even more likely to set-up a legal server with pirate servers running rampant.

BTW, it's not feasible to have a local server here [Blame Telscum]

Wolfling you made my day. Tried the server now and got pings of 300ms! Now I'm in business! Thanks again.

Go to http://wow.netnamix.com:8080. The server is in Namibia but it loads better than the local ones. Latency around 300 in the evenings.

The server itself is also more stable. Goods admins make the difference.
