Unotelly on Telkom Pace router

Not possible on that router, at least not with an easy user accessible setting. Not sure if one can do it on a low level. I use a second router for that purpose for the AppleTV and other connected devices.

You can change the static DNS settings for Unotelly on the pace router by using putty. It's not too difficult, and only takes a few seconds to do. I will try find a link to the step by step instructions that someone posted here before.

What are you trying to use Unotelly for? Netflix and Hulu? Because if so, then it can't be done (at least I couldn't work it out, and I tried for hours on end before selling the damn thing). Whilst you can change the static DNS (and hence unotelly will work), you cannot setup static routes. Without the static routes, Netflix/Hulu will still pick you up as being in SA, even with Unotelly working.

I am a bit uncomfortable using the putty way.

I connected a old netgear router to my vdsl router via cable, went into the netgear router and changed the DNS settings to my unotelly addresses, then connected laptop to neatgear but when I open netflix in the browser it still shows not available in your region.

Is there anything else I must do to the netgear router for it to work?
 
I did an install for someone with the Pace for vdsl and had to use one of the access points for dhcp to hand out uno dns servers.

Do you have another wifi access point on the network besides the Pace? If so can you provide name and model, if not you might need to get an additional AP/ get another whole new router that supports manual dns and static routes

I have another netgear(not sure which model, it's the older white Telkom one) connected to the network(linked to the pace with cat5) which is in the TV room. I did go to the basic settings in the netgear and added the unotelly address on the primary and secondary dns fields, but it doesn't seem to work...Do I only change the dns on the netgear or something else too? What is static routes... lol :D :erm:

Maybe if you can supply the model number we can get the right settings/page to look at. I personally haven't owned one of those in the past but we can go through it. I'm assuming its your old Adsl router is that right? We want to enable the DHCP service on it and tell it to give your clients the unotelly settings and then disable DHCP on the Pace. After that we then block traffic originating from within your network destined to 8.8.8 8 and other public dns servers using the firewall on the Pace. A couple of things but very doable

Okay cool sounds complicated but I am sure it is not too hectic to do with a little help...will check the model tonight and let you know, thanks for the info so far.

Ok i found the manual for your Netgear router download it from here, the one for your Pace is here . On the Netgear manual page 76 has what we are looking for as far as DHCP is concerned.

So, first of all we need to ensure your Pace and the Netgear are both on the same subnet and that only one will be servicing DHCP requests. I see you mentioned you connected to the Netgear and put in uno dns settings under basic settings, now how are you connecting to the Netgear is it via : 1) plugging in LAN cable into Netgear/ connecting to Netgear's wifi
2) connecting to Pace via cable/wifi and then accessing the Netgear via the network

Reason why i'm asking is to determine if the two are on the same network subnet or not as that is the basic condition we need before going further. Lets see what you got then we will move to the next step, and if you know how to get your windows IP settings then post them here as that will help.


Edit: what are the IP addresses of the Pace and the Netgear inc subnet mask?

Thank you for the manuals. I connect to the netgear with LAN cable but will also connect to its wifi (phones and tablet) and connecting to pace via LAN cable. The netgear is connected to the pace with LAN cable. The pace ip is 10.0.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 and the netgear is 10.0.0.3. subnet 255.255.255.0

My laptop Windows ip is 10.0.0.244 and subnet 255.255.255.0

Using the information in the netgear manual, just check the dhcp settings section and see if the router allows you to put in a custom default gateway alongside the address range. If not then we can't use it for dhcp server as it will highly likely be telling your clients to use itself (10.0.0.3) as the gateway, which we don't want. Your next option would be to try telnet into the Pace as advised by someone here to put in custom dns, and then use the firewall to block public dns servers.
