Okay...

So basically I just got the unrestricted APN from Vodacom and I'm having issues...

How do I create a connection in windows XP that would allow me to choose whether it should use the unrestricted APN or just the normal internet APN?

Anyways.. I never checked what my IP was before I applied for the unrestricted APN but now I get a 41.19.x.x IP address... does this seem right? I guess so... anyways...

My problem that I have is this... Why is it that when I traceroute www.google.com I get this? :
1 99ms 99ms 98ms 10.113.64.212
2 * * * Request timed out
3
4

Everything times out after it reaches the 10.113.64.212 address... why???? I would really have hoped I would get decent traceroute?? What should I do? This happens with my firewall enabled and disabled... no change.

Thanks in advance.

what frontend are you using? Vodafone should have an option in the settings to change the APN.

what is an unrestricted APN?

Correct. VMC will have a option for you to change the APN. Ubuntu's network manager also offers you this option (but already has the unrestricted APN predefined in one of the profiles for Vodacom)

The unrestricted APN bypasses the firewall and Vodacom security measures put in place to protect you for incoming connections to your pc/laptop. Some guys have requested this for some business reasons. As far as I know you have to sign a indemnity form acknowledging that you understand the risks with using the unrestricted APN.

You can try the following, under device manager in you modem properties on the advanced tab enter +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet" that would set your APN to the normal one. When you want to use the unrestricted APN just change the words internet with the unrestricted APN name.

You could also use this program to change between APN's it is very easy to use MDMA-does-Connection-Management-amp-USSD-Commands-amp-Monitors-Signal-Strength

Hope this works for you I have not used that APN

Thx ColdComfort... Forgot about using AT commands.. Anyways... now I get a 41.192.x.x IP address instead of a 41.19.x.x.. Which I know is right since I had the 41.192.x.x address in previous projects as well.

Anyways... now do anyone know why the tracert stops at 10.113.64.212? The funny thing is when I tracert google.com I continually get Request timed out and the last hop shows it does get the server and that the tracert was successful. Why so many time outs? Why am I stuck at the 10.x.x.x address when using tracert?

Ohh btw.. I tracert uswest.battle.net and it did the same thing again but now it didnt even do the last hop sucessful.. (bigger fail than with google.com)

Your traceroute is most likely being blocked by the router. Traceroutes and pings on any network get little to no priority. Best is to use something like tcptraceroute if you have Linux or find a windows utility that will perform traceroutes using tcp to perform traceroutes.
