Hi Guys,

I am currently using Webafrica unshaped DSL for raiding.
While I am totally satisfied with the service and support from Webafrica, I am getting a bit sick of the fact that 1GB of unshaped prepaid is costing me as much as R125.00 when other service providers out there sell it from as low as R70.00 per GB.

Is anyone else using another ISP for unshaped prepaid? What is the performance like compared to Webafrica?

Nick, buddy ol' pal. Welcome. You've woken up. Congratulations.

Now that I have stopped being condescending. If you kept abreast of all things Web Africa, you would have noticed that for gaming protocols including VOIP are all unshaped on their shaped packages. They also have a freezone where you can download WoW patches without impacting on your bandwidth usage when using an account with them.

As shocking as this may be to you, I'm paying R70 for 260-300ms ping without any special proxy. Hell, over weekends I enjoy 200ms at times... over my 384k line ;)

No ISP out there compares with them. AT ALL. However, WA did mention that services on shaped MIGHT degrade whereas unshaped is dedicated. However, they'll first shoot down torrent traffic before touching the unshaped protocols on their network's shaped packages.

If I were you, I'd get a 1gb shaped and ditch the 1gb unshaped until they release their new pricing come 1st of March 2010... that's if you're okay with a 250-350ms ping on a shaped network

Granted, you shouldn't have a botched ADSL line that drops signal whenever a bird chirps in the highlands of Scotland. But yes. Rly

Right..

So I got capped yesterday and after reading this post. I bought a prepaid 1 gig shaped account from WA. My latency is ~400ms without any proxy or anything. Now if only they'd drop their prices to the likes of Afrihost, I would consider changing to them asap.I also have 384k line.. Was hoping for 260ms to 300ms..

You would need the leatrix latency fix to get lower than 400ms without a proxy

Oh yea, I'm running the leatrix fix... forgot to mention that. But my ADSL line is also right next to the main exchange, so my noise margin is way about 30db and my line attenuation is like 3db. And yes, I'm really getting between 250-350ms ping. Most of the time it runs stable under 300ms where I see a little bright green box

Personally I get around 250-350ms on Cybersmart to EU-Sylvanas.

I however tested this morning for fun to see what it would be in the morning, did a AB quick quick and my latency throughout the game was 185-207ms. The wonders what an empty server can do for your latency!

The above was done with a private server in Europe which I used as a proxy so I know I am still safe that way.

Is the Leatrix latency fix the normal TcpAck fix? Or does it do more?

Another thing is if I ping to paris, it comes back on an average of 250 ms, my line is unshaped. However in WoW my latency is 400 - 500ms, with the TcpAck fix. Why? :(
Edit: my realm is low pop

I bought myself 1GB shaped, and logged into wow... WOW getting 230ms... could believe it, but over time it crept up and stablised around 450-500ms.

Are you saying if i go unshaped it would stay low? Last time it didn't really made a diffrence but that was also before they updated they infrastructure..

Webafrica's unshaped is no better than there shaped offering, on shaped from them i get about 340, on there unshaped i get about 330, definitely not worth the extra R50 for 10ms, but i have a sub to lowerping, and my latency never go's over 244ms. So i wouldnt waste money on there unshaped service its rather crap of late.

hi,

i had a look at the lowerping website, a few times already. seeing that some here use it, is there a risk? i am also not sure on how easy it is to use, and can all be reversed if all goes crazy?
i tried the leatrix latency thing a while ago, when there were often dc's in toc...with the effect that i got more often dc'ed...even in dalaran. So, i quickly removed it again, and never tried it again.

The connection risk is none existant, because the connection between you and the server is encrypted, as for it breaking blizzards TOS its a very grey area, i havnt had issues. They made it very easy, you download there app, click install proxy, click world of warcraft, select the server you have good ping against, click ok, type your username and password, run wow. When you done, click uninstall proxy or disable proxy and thats it:P

So where do I find this? I need to download the 3.3.2 patch ?

After using the Leatrix Fix, my ms is averaging ~350ms

*edit*

Never mind found it, I see they don't have the update yet. *downloads with ****ty TI account*
