Hi Guys

I need your advice again, because the last time i asked, your answers sorted my issues out. I have an unshaped line running through a proxy and play halo 3 , but internationally, i have an option to get the same speed line, but not running through a proxy. My service provider says i won't notice any difference. Is this correct? Is he talking trash? He also said that no matter what speed line i get the latency will remain the same? I think that sounds like trash. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hmm, a little vague as to the exact question but here goes.

Line speed has no effect on latency - true. latency is the time it takes one packet to get there and back again. Line speed is how many packets goes go there and back at the same time. (Line speed should really be called "throughput")

If you're on unshaped already, going through a proxy would in theory slow you down, so not going through one would be preferable. This can be a bit misleading, as it can depend on the quality of your ISP's international connection as well. My best suggestion is try with and without.

Thanx doobi, sorry my knowledge of this subject is very limited, so i on't really know what ques to ask. I go My service provider is cybersmart, i think you might have suggested them to me, What line do you use?

I use their 384 3Gb oneprice package which is apparently unshaped, and my latency to the UK is pretty good ~300-350ms. I've seen better I've seen worse. I've seen unshaped down to 250ms, but I've seen "good" shaped running at 500-800ms.

Basically for me I can play Halo and Bad company on international servers and it's acceptible, so I'm happy.
