Unsolicited SMS's breaks my devices

Hi there

We use a device on the MTN network that takes instructions via SMS. When the device receives and unsolicited SMS it stops responding. We then need to take the SIM out, put it in a normal phone and delete the related SMS.

Is there a way in can stop these SMS' going through? Our a server I can log into to clear these messages out?

Or better - set - network side - which numbers are allowed to SMS my devices?

Numerous phone calls have been fruitless - anyone with any ideas?

sorry but what is a unsolicited SMS.

if it is some kind of funny sms, cannot you tell your device to only rx from 1 number, like in profiles.
or change your cell number.
We use hunderds of cell modems, but all are data only, no problem.

The device does not have any programming buttons - only receives configuration commands via SMS.

Unsolicited SMS is those spam adverts we all get and never want, the device cannot interpret it as a command and then goes into standby mode.

I can only imagine that some numbers in are pool could be re-allocations of old numbers that could have been subscribed to these notifications.

my only idea is to send commands via sms with a header , ie "begin command:" and reprogram the device to look for this header and ignore the sms if not is present?

I also have a "device" which works with sms's: my alarm at home. It is programmed to automatically delete a sms which it does not recognise. I need to send a special code to activate certain functions. Sometimes there is some random missed calls on it, but also does not affect the unit. If you can not configure your device, maybe get another simcard(number). Hopefully you'll get no "other" sms's.

good idea.

then it can discard sms'es which doesn't conform to this standard.

drawback - makes up for extra typing though.

or else have it blacklist all numbers except the numbers from which it have to receive commands from.

Hi,
Was today at a person's house, use a wavecom fasttrack wismo cell modem on his "paradox" alarm.
He got 2 cell modems.
On the sim he put his phone number and 1 sms.
How does the comms between the alarm work. Can he also talk to alarm via the cell modem.
