Hi Guys,
Some questions concerning fixed wireless & Rain LTE-A

1. If you not using the router during the day ( at work ) do any of your turn off the router & only have it on when you home ?
2. How can you tell if getting LTE-A etc , if run a speed test is that confirm it ?
3.Can you only check on the Afrihost site concerning how much data you used ?
4. Can I connect the my Huawei B618 to my spare Router ( TP-Link ) because it has more Land points . I have Network cables running to TV etc.

Thanks

Wow I must have pissed everyone off in this forum, 120 views & not one reply

1. I leave the router on
2. Good luck with getting LTE-A
3. Yes, Afrisucks is the only way to check your data usage
4. No idea, sorry man.

I think people are just gatvol with this Rain solution. It was great before December and it came crashing down like a big ball of fire due to congestion on the towers.

Hopefully you are in a remote area so enjoy.

1. Stays on all the time, so my home server can do its thing
2. Guess so. On LTE myself
3. If you're on Afrihost I assume so. Their might be a sms or ussd code you could use as well, depends on the network
4. Yes

Oh crap now I read this about Rain.
Well at the moment I am getting 49.4 Mbps and that far better then my 10 meg line with Telkom. My Telkom line was down for over a Month & only recently back up.

So I am thinking of dropping Telkom & stay with Afrihost Fixed wireless. ( rain ) Trying to decide what to do.

Well I hope Rain sort things out because they could steal the market if they do well.

Reason I was asking if you leave the router on was to ensure no data is being used.

Thanks for the replies guys

I will leave my router on all the time.
You can get data use utilities to monitor your data use - get report per hour, per day, per week and per month to see if you are close to your cap.
Look for the method I placed on the forum to bridge a TP_Link to B618 via LAN cable. The B618 has a weak radio(wifi signal). My TP_Link covers about 5 houses next to each other.

A lot of complaints about Rain but although slower since Nov this speed at 22h30 is fantastic. This is with the PC about 20m away from the TP-Link router.

1. Leave it on forever
2. No idea, never had LTE-A signal by my place...lucky if I had a strong LTE signal
3. Yep in clientzone...not very accurate though...the refresh on their end is a bit slow?
4. If i understand correctly, u can. Just connect the TP link WAN port to one of the 4 LAN ports of your LTE router. Might need to set TP link to bridge mode, or keep it on DHCP mode if you dont mind the 2nd LAN it creates (make sure both routers dont have the same IP address, for example 192.168.1.1 for both)

The B618 has only 2 LAN ports. I does make sense to add the bridge to a 4 LAN port TP_Link even if 1 is lost. As indicated the key is to use the next number for the TP_Link IP like 192.168.1.2 and use access point in the settings. No change is done on any settings on the B618. Very simple and works great.

Who uses internet during the week at that time? The whole idea is to have usable internet at peak times. 5pm - 10pm. My speeds are tremendous during off peak times. Clocking 40MB down easy. What use is that to me when I am sitting at work, or sleeping when the speeds are good?
